I wouldn't be so quick to believe the cashier, here. After reading your post this morning, I headed off to my local CVS with my 30% card in hand. Just to double check, I asked the store manager about using the 30% with ECBs offers and she also said it wouldn't work, so I got my regular ECBs stuff and left without using the card.
Decided I was going to do the $20 WYB $50 Olay Pro-X rebate, so I stopped at a different CVS and picked up two of the $47 Olay Pro-X stuff with the 30% off, and also used a $10 coupon, bringing my total to $55.80 pre-tax. Guess what printed out on the bottom of my receipt--yup, $10 ECBs for having purchase 2 Olay Pro-X.
So, I say if you've got enough time to try it and you've got a really patient cashier who'll allow you to return items if they don't produce ECBs, go ahead and give it a try.
