QUESTION ECBs were shorted during transaction

Hey, I am a CVS newbie with a card I just signed up for last week. Today I went to CVS used a $3/$15 as well as two $.50 Right Guard coupons. They were accepted without a hitch, until I tried to use $16.45 worth of ECBs (one ECB for $10.47 the other ECB for $5.98). The register wouldn't take them so the cashier did something weird and on my receipt it says there are four $3.00 CVS coupons and one $1.47 coupon so that comes to $13.47 ECB. So that means she shorted my ECBs by $2.98. Instead of $16.45 ECB it was $13.47 ECB applied to my transaction. I called customer service and they told me to go to the store since it was a store issue. Now, my question is do you think they are going to give me my $2.98 ECB back or something else? :frown:

What was your total? There have been times where my ECB is a couple cents over my total, so they will adjust the ECB down. This may have been what happened here...

I called my CVS store and one of the other cashiers knew exactly who I was talking about and what happened and told me to come in tomorrow with my receipt.

I had to pay $7.01 OOP. So I was shorted $2.98 ECB of my $16.45 ECBs. This happened because the register would not take my original ECB coupons and the cashier manually entered the amount (wrong at that).

The CVS website says ECB cannot be partially redeemed so I would like to know if anyone has a clue as to what they are going to do - give me my ECB back or is it just a loss?

Instead of the coupon portion of my receipt looking like this:

-$.50 (Right Guard)
-$.50 (Right Guard)
-$3.00 (3/15)
-$10.47 (One ECB for 3 Crest Pro Health)
-$5.98 (One ECB for 2 Colgate)

Total: $20.45 worth of coupons I came in store with.

It looks like this:

-$.50 (Right Guard)
-$.50 (Right Guard)
-$1.47
-$3.00 (3/15 coup)
-$3.00
-$3.00
-$3.00
-$3.00

Total: $17.47 worth of coupons applied ($13.47 in ECB).

Like I said earlier, she did something weird/manual because my ECBs were not being accepted. The other three coupons were accepted flawlessly. I think she did her math wrong so I had to pay $7.01 OOP and lost $2.98 ECB.:frown:

It looks like the $3/15 coupon. Sometimes after certain CVS coupons, the register will not accept anything higher than that coupon amount, in this case $3.

The remedy:

Have them rescan your card after your $x/xx coupon

So that means I didn't really get to use my $3/$15 (she scanned it)? Or Did I lose my $2.98 of my $16.45 ECB? :shrug7:Either way, I was shorted $2.98 on my transaction. To me, a poor college student/pregnant future mom, that's a lot.:hectic1:

I just want someone to tell me, who has been in this situation, what the CVS store will do because it's bugging me to not know. That's all I'm interested in.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, just wanted to say I'd go back to the store and explain what happened to the supervisor, I bet she'll be happy to give you the missing ECB amount on a money card if you explain that you're new to CVS and want to keep shopping at her store, but don't understand why your full ECB amount wasn't applied to your order. Good luck!

They shorted me about $7.99 of ECB and they just gave me a CVS giftcard with that amount. I used it and got ECB back on the item I bought...

It is my understanding that if your Extra Care Buck is larger (I read here something like $5 or more) then you need to hand that over first or it beeps and will give a computer message that the max value is less than the amount that is printed on the paper . . . An example that happened to me:

During the Energizer / Kung Fu Panda sale I bought three packs of Energizer and the DVD. I used (3) $1.25/1 Energizer coupons, a printable coupon (want to say it was for $7 but my brain is a little fried right now) for buying both the Energizer and the DVD and a $13 Extra Care Buck.

When the cashier rang up the order I handed her my Extra Care Buck last and it said it had a max value of $3 . . . My total was more than that and I remembered what I read here . . . So I asked her to void the order and the second time I gave her the Extra Care Bucks first and it went through for the full amount with no problems.

Like a fool I did this again with one of the big Duracell deals. I had them scan the Duracell manufactures coupons and CVS coupon first and then gave my Extra Care Buck . . . HUGE mistake in this case because when the order was voided, my CVS coupon for $5/2 also became voided -- when they tried to scan it for the re-ringing it beeped and said already redeemed. Now I was lucky in that I was in a store that got what happened and just pushed it through as a CVS store coupon but that is what makes my stomach do flips when I am trying to do deals . . . Well once again we re-rang it and I gave the Extra Care Bucks first and those came off with no problem . . . Other than having to push the CVS coupon through as mentioned it went off without a hitch.

The one problem I see with this is when you are using a $/$ coupon and you get an employee or store that likes to read your coupons. If your total after Extra Care Bucks is less than $15 they could for example try and say you can't use a $3/$15. Now I know it will go through because my original total was more than $15 and I can argue that Extra Care Bucks are considered a form of payment and are noted to be treated like cash but some stores are not as amiable as others . . . I haven't been getting $/$ coupons unless I trade for them -- well one of my family members cards out of the three I have got two $10/$50 on Thanksgiving Day but nothing else so it has not been an issue for me. I traded for three of them and used one on the Energizer Spend $15 get $10 and used the other two on Thanksgiving day with no problems.
