To my surprise they were STORE coupons and I didn't have to pay tax. | Now YMMV but many state laws stipulate no sales tax is to be charged on medical devices (like glucometers).

She said that the district manager had told them not to accept the Q's if the customer wanted ECB's if the customer wanted the monitors anyways then to trash the ECB's after they printed :shrug7:
Right after telling her "forget it" a friend and member of this site had come in the store and I had told her what I was told, so as we are discussing it the Assistant Manager comes up and starts using phrases like "coupon fraud" regarding using Q's on the monitors to get ECB's and that it came down from Corporate that if the Monitors are offering ECB's they will not honor the Q, and if they do they are authorized to throw the ECB's away. I was completely in shock especially since she had the nerve to basically accuse us of coupon fraud. I at this point was so fed up, but my friend still wanted them anyways as she donates them, so she grabs a couple, goes up to the checkout and then they refuse the Q alltogether saying that the monitors are $19.99 and the Q says $20 off, which isn't true it says UP TO $20 off. I am so aggravated and annoyed with CVS right now!! Thankfully we went to another store and got them with a manager override on the Q, no questions asked. | There is *no way* that this 'came down from corporate' or else there would be *a lot* of people on here upset that they couldn't use their monitor coupons to get ecbs. If they are not going to allow coupons to be used on monitor-deals, then they need to write that into the ad and also on the sale tags on the shelf. I went and got a few of the onetouch monitors today w/ no problem. The store manager even said that it was great that he got to make the extra handling fee on the coupon while I was able to get some almost-free extrabucks. I also recently told them store to order in extra Contour monitors, telling them that it was a good ecb deal coming up and that there were coupons out that make them free so they'd want extra on hand. If there were crazy directives banning coupon-use on ecb-producing monitors, there is no way that I would have had those 2 experiences in the last 3 days.
I'm betting the coupon was refused at the register simply b/c the person didn't know how to handle the coupon. At many stores, any coupon over $10 or $15 requires a manager to scan their card to approve the coupon. I'm betting the person you got didn't realize this and thinks that anything that beeps isn't 'allowed'.
I did have a 'similar' experience at another store a couple of weeks ago, w/ the 'buy a contour and colgate, get $5 ecbs' deal. I was just buying 2 contours b/c I didn't see the toothpaste on the shelf, and I figured that either the bucks would print right then or I'd get them when I got the toothpaste later at another store. SM told me that I wouldn't get the bucks if I only got the monitors. I got the monitors, ecbs printed, SM took them off of my receipt and tried to keep them from me, saying I hadn't 'fullfilled the offer'. (keep in mind that in this instance the receipt actually said at the bottom 'ascensia, buy 2 get 5 eb', which basically advertises that you can get 2 monitors and get the ebs.) I stood and argued for several minutes and let it be known that they were mine and she couldn't keep them, and finally she gave them back and I left. Oh, and after we left, while putting our babies in the car, the SM and another employee came outside and looked around like they were looking for us.
I'm still working on my email to corp about how my friend and I were treated that day. I really think you should write in about your experience, too. Nothing will change if we don't tell someone higher-up how customers who want to spend good money in their stores (yes, coupons *are* money) are being treated.

Corporate will be getting an email from both my friend and myself in the next day or so.
She also said something about in the ad the fine print said no discounts can be applied, only I thought this was a "hidden" deal, not in any ads, if thats the case she really truly is full of crap. |
