Here is some info I came across recently about clearance at CVS


Some info on the clearances at CVS....
*this was originally posted toward the end of Spring 2007

There are two major types of clearances: AMM (automatic Markdowns) and
clearances on "Seasonal" stuff like holidays, spring items, summer items...
these are things that are not regularly carried.

This week, the seasonal markdowns just started for the Spring Items. The
Spring Items (spring flowers, storage, wind chimes, etc) SHOULD be marked
down to 50%. Next week they'll go to 75% (if the store manager doesn't push
it to get it out of there sooner... they'll mark it down earlier... its up
the the GM). They have a deadline to get "summer" set... so they may get in
a hurry to get it outta there..

Ok, AMM's.... Every year, CVS has "Plans". This is where they "rebuild" each
section of the store (shampoo/conditioners, hairstyling, shaving/deodorants,
etc..) Soon before they "rebuild" a section of the store, the system sends
down discounts on things that will no longer be included in the new "Plan".
The system is supposed to send the AMMs down on Tuesdays, but they come on
Mondays most of the time. Good store mgrs will get the AMMs started on
Mondays (these are the little tags you see hanging on the shelves in home
locations for 25%, 50%, 75% and some of them just say clearance with no
discount). These clearance deals are good until they're gone and no more
product can be ordered or will come into the stores. Coupons can be used on
these items. These items will normally go on clearance for 4 weeks... 25%
first week, 50% second week, 75% third week, and then they will go back to
just clearance with no discount. At that point, its up to the mgr to
manually mark those down and move them to the clearance end-cap. (This should
be in the back of the store on the left hand side most of the time).

In the first of the year, right after the Christmas clearances, makeup goes
on clearance. Soon after that is shampoo, hair styling/color/accessories,
soaps/body wash, lotion, deodorants, mostly health and beauty. The "other
side" of the store will come later in the year.

I happened onto a great saleyesterday at CVS. The manager was putting out a lot of different things at 90% off!! I got some great Burts Bee's gift packets for 1.74nd 2.40. Great for Christmas gifts!

At our store in Marion, IL I got Pampers Swipers wipes and the Pampers Clean-n-Go wipes, both 180 ct. on clearance for $4.00, reg. $7.99.

Found 5-piece Willow Storage sets for 2.00 yesterday in Northern IN. They also had the long collapsable loungers (beach chairs) for 2.00 each. (both items are normally priced @ 20.00)
The chairs were all sold (there were at least 16 of them) so I don't know the brand but the baskets say CVS brand in small print.

Found a couple of Russell Stover (big white box)boxes of chocolates on clearance $3.60, Dove trial size shampoos .25 each, different varietes of gum .30 each (I got Wrigley's Extra cool watermelon),Russell Stover Sugar Free mint chocolate wafer and sugar free choco. covered peanuts .55 cents each.

Another store had alot of haircolor different varieties. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow with all my haircolor Q'S. Hoping for some overage because I'm pretty sure they are all 90% off. Then will either give away haircolor or sell in a garage sale.

Prattville, AL store had a huge beauty clearance. Most things marked down to less than $2, and after that there was a sign on the cart that said everything marked down 50% on top of that.

Here's what I remember:
Revlon makeup (foundation/lips/eyes)
Cover Girl makeup (foundation/lips) -- picked up a $1.99 marked foundation for FREE with a $1 coupon!
Lumene for men (most of this stuff is free with the $2 CVS coupon!)
Soy Joy bars (marked 60-cents)
Some other kind of bar.. was it Powerbar maybe? Is that a brand?
All kinds of Essence of Beauty brushes
Revlon tweezers
Old spice (varies)
Lots of trial size shampoo incl. Herbal Essences, Pantene, etc.

That's all I remember for now. I'm heading back for lunch tomorrow to get some free stuff with my coupons that expire 6/30!

I've found the 40 ct package of Imodium A-d E-z Chews marked 50% off down to $6.85 at a couple of Houston, TX stores. With the $5 IP coupon from Imodium's website, I got them for $1.85 which I thought was a pretty good deal.
