The other day I contacted CS thru the CVS website again. I explained that I asked the same question over a month ago and did not get a response.

You can't can't see my exact question because they did not quote it when they responded, but I basically asked how a rain check was supposed to be written when ECBs where offered.

Here is the reply I got within 24 hours.

Katie

Dear Ms. XXXXXXX,

A rain check should be issued when the store doesn't have the product on hand that they normally carry to obtain the Extrabucks. The store manager would write the rain check including the sale description, the sale price, then minus the Extrabucks. Once the products are received at the store the cashier would sell you the product subtracting the Extrabucks value.

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us either by e-mail or by calling (800) 746-7287. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I hope you have a nice day.

Sincerely,

Heather Gagne

I received a similar response. I asked if they give rainchecks on items that would get ecb's. Then I asked if an item was $5.00 & the ecb's was $5.00, how would the raincheck be made out. Here is the reply I got:

Thank you for contacting CVS/pharmacy about our raincheck policy. Stores are allowed to write rainchecks for Extra Bucks sale items. We prefer to offer a substitute item, so that our customers do not leave empty handed. However, in the example you provided, the raincheck would be written for 0. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Default Re: I have a question for CVS employees

Some stores will write you the raincheck for the sale price of the item and then when you do get to purchase it you can call and get your ECBs to print. Some will write it for you to just get the item at the sales price minus the ECBs you would have gotten (so free for the gatorade since it's $1.29 w/ $1.29 ECBs), and I've heard of a couple of really great stores that will ring up the item and let you pay for it, even though it's not in stock, so that you can pay for your deal the way you planned, and then issue you a raincheck to pick up the item for free when they get it back instock, w/ the raincheck showing that you've already paid for the item. It's completely YMMV, though, b/c I haven't found any of my stores that are willing to do it that way. It would really save a lot of grief w/ re-figuring my deals if they'd do it that way. :(

Default Raincheck for FREE After ECB items.. Got a question!

What happens in the event that they are out of a free after ECB item? I thought they gave you a raincheck for the price of the item and also put on there that you should recieve a moneycard for the ECB amount?

*that is what they did at another cvs*

Anyhoo my cashier told me lastnight I was basically **** out of luck, that they can't issue rai checks for free after ecb items and that the other cvs should NOT have done that.

thanks!

Default Re: Raincheck for FREE After ECB items.. Got a question!

It is my understanding that they have a few methods of doing this:

*They can put the ECBs on a gift card when you DO purchase the product with a raincheck, or

*They can write the raincheck for the price after ECBs (It would be free in that case), or

*They can make you pay the full price and then tell you to call Customer Service to haggle for the ECBs.

Fortunately, I usually get the raincheck that has the "price after ECBs are applied". Though I would prefer a gift card, I'm glad they don't make me call Cust Serv!
Obviously, YMMV so ask them!
HTH.

The same thing hasppend to me! I asked for the raincheck, but the sales associate just kindly told me that she would gladly give the raincheck to me, but only for the sale price and there is nothing she could do about the ECBs...so I just didn't worry about the raincheck after that...it is too late to worry about now, but in the future what should be done to get the FREE item???

Default Re: Raincheck for FREE After ECB items.. Got a question!

I had the "assistant manager" (who was outfitted in regular clothes and had no nametag BTW) at my local CVS tell me that last night, that she could write me the raincheck for $4.99 (for the Softsoap Spa). I laughed at her I told her when the store is out of an item which is free after ECBs, they always write a raincheck for the item for free. She said she had never heard of that before, went on about how it was not the same as paying and then getting ECBs back (if only she knew how we do this!), very reluctantly wrote the raincheck, and told me she would be checking into it I proceeded to get the same raincheck at the next 3 CVS stores without so much as the blink of an eye.

I chalk this up to the fact that some people just really shouldn't be managers or assistant managers. If you have enough common sense, you should know how to handle the situation properly. I've had regular cashiers know exactly what to do and an assistant manager doesn't?

I also got rainchecks for the Smart Rinse. I found two of them today in the store and when I tried to present my rain check, the cashier called a mgr. to her register. The mgr. said they would make good on it this time, but that whoever gave me the raincheck was wrong to give it to me- that they don't give rainchecks for anything with ECBs attached to the sale. Was she wrong?

from what I have been told via corporate customer service, is that a rain check should be issued minus the ECB price, so say the mouthwash was on sale for $2.99 with $2.99 ECB, they should write the rain check out for that, $2.99 with $2.99 ECB thus making it free(except tax where required). A few weeks back I posted the copied email I got back from them somewhere. If I can find it again, I will post it here.
