Required to Scan Coupons in Specific Order?

During a recent trip, I handed the clerk by stack of coupons with my $3/15 q and my ECBs on top followed by my manuf. q. There were people behind me so I handed them in one lump sum. She proceeded to scan the manufacturer qs first which then brought my total below the $15 total and thus she handed me back my $3/15 q.

So my question is this. Are clerks required to scan manuf q first if they are given them all together? I guess I just assumed she would scan them in the order I gave them to her.

There is no required order to scan coupons and she should have still scanned your $3/15 as long as your total before any coupons was over $15. It doesn't matter if that coupon is scanned first or last as long as you met the requirement. If it happens again, just ask for a manager.

Thanks. I typically hand them to the clerk in the order I want them scanned. I think I'll be making an effort to this from now on so I don't get shorted.

I do one at a time, or in small batches if I am buying multiples of an item with the same MQs (ie: 4 Downy with 4*50/1 MQs, I hand over 4 Qs and say, "there are 4 of these"). It's easier to take an extra 30 seconds to do them this way than an extra 5 minutes trying to figure out what got skipped. Been there, done that... no thanks!
