ECB not at full value? Stopped in at a different CVS yesterday on a break and got a weird ECB situation. My transaction was
4 Smart Rinse @3.49
1 Oral B @ 6.99
1 Brut @ 3.19
Subtotal - 24.14
less $4/$20 CVSq
less $1 Brut q
less$1.99 ecb (still subtotal of 17.15)
Then I gave her a $5 ecb, which wouldn't scan. The cashier tried manually punching it in a couple of times and said, "You can only use $4 of this." I replied that it was clearly marked as $5. She called a manager up to the front who told me that I could only use $4 of it because I used too many q's. I said I only had 1 CVS q and 1 mfg q...not exactly a load...and I reminded the manager that ECB's are not q's anyway they're cash equivalent. She said, "I know that, SIR", and turned the screen to face me. The screen had a popup that read something like, "$4.00 allowed". Then she told me I could either eat the $1 loss to use the ecb or save it for later. I just kept it and paid the OOP with a "Geez, I'll never be back in this store again." I decided not to give her the helpful tip that her fly was open. 30 minutes later, same ECB rang up beautifully at another store.
I remembered reading here that some helpful scan of DOOM can reduce your ECB's to $3, but mine was $4 and I didn't see the cashier scan a different card. Also, it couldn't be limiting me to one ECB per trans because they were going to take the other one, just not at full value. Anyone else know what happened here? |
