I went to CVS this morning - desparately needed wipes - not sure how we go through these so quickly! I felt like I really stocked up last Dec at Target but 6 months later here I am! I used a 5/25 CRT and some free Qs for Lipton to get my total down + Qs - my total went from 25.96 to 7.00 and the clerk was obvious in his displeasure. He said in a somewhat rude tone - well, you sure saved a lot. I thought it was funny because typically I pay way less OOP, but I had forgotten to put my ECBs in my Q binder - so I did not have any with me! Before I could reply, the older guy behind me (who was waiting patiently while my Qs got scrutinized) said "well, that's good b/c she looks like she could use to save a buck or two with all those kiddos." (I had the twins and the baby with me) Then he quickly said "no offense - but I think your savings was impressive." I had to smile at the whole thing - the cashier looked dumb struck. I never worry about cashier's reactions. The man behind me was right, I could use to save a buck or two!

My first retail job (where I stayed waaaaaaaaaayyyy too long) I would get pissed about people using coupons or wanting to do multiple transactions. Why? idk, I hated my job and was miserable. I try to remember that if a cashier ever gives me a hard time. In a way I actually feel sorry for them. On the other hand, they have the power to leave if it makes them so unhappy so *thhhpppt* (sticks toungue out) to them.

Ask him if he has ever accepted a free sample of fudge from a candy store. CVS is getting their money. If I am not mistaken, the manufacturers of the products pay CVS to do these ECB deals in order to help advertise the products. Since most people are not as savvy as us serious couponers, both the manufacturer and the retailer are making a boatload of cash on these things. We are cheap advertising for the manufacturer and we are giving great business to CVS in the process. In fact, from what I understand, CVS has been making out huge since the ECB thing started. If you explain that to your cashier, he might have a better attitude about it. Of course, that takes time that you might not have, so . . . whatever. Don't let him get to you in any case.

I think a lot of cashiers have no idea the store gets reimbursed for the coupons. Those cashiers should be happy we are out there buying all their merchandise! That is what is keeping them in business.

Some cashiers do get it and are very friendly. YA just never know. Kinda adds to the excitement of the whole shopping trip. Never a dull moment when you are an extreme couponer!

At the store up the street, I get these reactions:

Manager: Wow!! I love to work the register when you come in. It's always amazing how well you do!!

Older Cashier: (puzzled look) I STILL can't figure out how you always get those receipts where you get money back!!!

Younger Cashier: That is soooooo cool!!!

I love my CVS store!!

I think some cashiers think we must be doing something illegal. LOL If you are not a couponer I can understand how they might think that. Where I live many people won't use coupons.

I have been at the grocery store and the cashier will tell the customer oh you can go get another (Blah blah) they are BOGO. The customer says "oh what would I do with 2? Umm freeze it, save for later, give to neighbor, give to food pantry. I can think of lots of things.

I have two main stores. I have a very good working relationship with the main cashiers and managers. I am courteous, polite and friendly when I go in and when I leave. I give positive feedback (one cashier received a $50 gift card from my email!) to Customer Service by phone ratings and emails. They all know who I am and what I do. Many of the cashiers give me their coupons, and I found out yesterday that they have my phone number next to the phone (in case of found oos items). BUT... a lot of it has to do with the manager's personality, views of coupon usage and how they train their employees.

There is another store I avoid as much as possible. It doesn't matter how friendly and accommodating I am, the cashiers are just grouchy. I still smile and wish them a good day as I leave.

There will always be awesome stores and not-so-friendly stores. Just work with what you have, know that you are doing nothing wrong, and be prepared to stand up for yourself if/when you need to.

I get my stuff and go. As long as they're not rude, and no one at my stores has been yet, I don't worry about whether there's a Look or not.

I work in a department store. You would not believe how many people refuse to go get the second item in a BOGO. Drives me crazy. I think most don't realize the register will take the price and divide it between the two items, they can return the one they don't want and get half their money back. I want to tell them they should come back next week when their shirt will be 30-40% off again instead of paying full price.
