| | | Stimulus check + bonus if used at Cub I got this in our St. Cloud, MN paper. Not sure if it applies to all Cubs. I'll post this on the Cash Wise/ Coborns thread too, and maybe WM.
Source is St. Cloud Times Groceries' deal for you: Bring in your stimulus check, we'll give you a bonus By Amy Trang • atrang@stcloudtimes.com • May 1, 2008- Coborn’s, Cash Wise Foods and Cub Foods stores are allowing customers to use those checks to get a 10 percent bonus when they purchase gift cards at those grocery stores.
The Internal Revenue Service started distributing the money to taxpayers this week. Starting today, Coborn’s and Cash Wise customers can purchase gift cards in $300 increments with the bonus. Cub is offering a similar program that starts Friday. At both chains, customers will receive a 10 percent bonus on those gift cards, bringing their total to $330 for each card purchased. Customers are limited to six gift cards at Coborn’s and Cash Wise locations and four gift cards at Cub Foods locations. “It makes sense,” Coborn’s spokesman Steve Gottwalt said. “A lot of our customers are looking to make ends meet. We saw this as an opportunity for our customers.” Customers can get the bonus by bringing a valid identification card with their economic stimulus check, check stub or bank statement showing direct deposit to any service counter at any Coborn’s, Cash Wise Foods or Cub Foods. Customers at Coborn’s and Cash Wise who show a bank statement or check stub will be required to pay cash for their gift cards to get the bonus, and must do so within four weeks from when the check was issued. The stores’ stimulus programs will run until July 31. “We decided to do it because we feel that it’s another way to give our customers another option to stretch their dollar,” said Cub Foods spokeswoman Lee Ann Jorgenson. Other regional and national retailers also are catering to customers’ rebate checks. Wal-Mart announced this week that it will cash economic stimulus checks for free and start slicing prices more on household items, such as cereal and shampoo.

| | Re: Stimulus check + bonus if used at Cub Just had a thought ... What if you receive your stimulus check as an auto deposit. I'm guessing it won't work in this situation. We were hoping to do this deal, but I bet it won't work since we have our taxes on auto deposit. What do you guys think?

| | Re: Stimulus check + bonus if used at Cub I'm sure its a YMMV thing, but right, they have no business seeing the other information on the bank statement. I'd eather bring it in with a few pices of scratch paper, and lay it on the counter and cover the rest with the paper and just show them the one transaction, or I'd go online and see if I can isolate the transaction, or view just deposits, etc, print it , and black out the unnecessary information and bring that in. Really to them, its just a gift card, and with how many people are getting this check, they probaby arent going to be looking that close, dont care, etc.
