Default ASAP thoughts needed on Pork Chop - Slow cooker recipe

I am getting ready to start this and want to hear any thoughts or suggestions.

I have to cook thin pork chops today....

All recipes.com has a recipe that basically says put pork chops in slow cooker pour 18oz BBQ sauce and let cook. I am planning on doing this with ketchup (we always tend to sub ketchup when a recipe asks for sauce....will this taste good?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. I am cooking cream cheese corn on the other side of my split crockpot so I really want to do a crockpot recipe...

    Thanks!

I have never used just ketchup in lieu of BBQ in my pork ribs crockpot recipes. But if you like the flavor of ketchup, then I say give it a try and let us know how it turns out. If you are little concerned that the ketchup might taste weird all by itself, then mix a half cup or so of BBQ sauce into the mix and go from there.

My family loves crockpot pork chops/ribs and all I do is add whatever bottle of BBQ sauce that I have on hand as well as a diced up onion and let it cook itself. It turns out great everytime. On the rare occasion (and I mean rare) that I have too much leftovers, I take the remaining crockpot pork and shred it for either pork sammies or chili.

    Pork Chops with Apples

    Ingredients:

    • 6 pork loin chops, about 1-inch thick, trimmed of visible fat
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • salt
    • 6 tart apples, such as Granny Smith, cored and thickly sliced
    • 1/4 cup currants or raisins, optional
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    Preparation:

Brown chops in oil over medium heat. Sprinkle with salt. Place pork chops in the slow cooker/Crock Pot; combine remaining ingredients and pour over the pork chops. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours, or on high 3 to 4 hours.
    Serves 6.

Thanks ladies...I am trying to stockpile cook and don't have any BBQ sauce or the ingrediants for the Apple recipe. My family love ketchup so I think we are just going to give it a try and see how it is:)

LOL, I'm trying to figure out what to do with all the BBQ sauce I have stockpiled.......

Let us know how it turns out with the ketchup.

Has anyone tried using BBQ sauce with chicken breasts in the crockpot?

On one side of my crockpot I have the pork chops and ketchup only...we'll see but my family loves ketchup. On the other side I have this scaled down by a 1/3:

    Cheesy Creamed Corn

    Ingredients
    • 3 (16 ounce) packages frozen corn
    • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cubed
    • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, cubed
    • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, cubed
    • 3 tablespoons water
    • 3 tablespoons milk
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 6 slices American cheese

    Directions
    1. Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker; mix well.
    2. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or until heated through and the cheese is melted. Stir well before serving

I will let everyone know how dinner goes...if nothing else it was less than $1.00; not sure exactly how much but everything was almost free or free including the pork chops which I paid $.33 for.

lol on the BBQ sauce...I had over 60 bottles and donated them because I couldn't figure out what to do with them. The few recipes that call for it; my husband likes ketchup instead. Last year for Christmas his sister got him a "I like ketchup on my ketchup" t-shirt to give you an idea

I haven't...I bet someone has though! The ladies on here have been slowly teaching me how to cook over the year by reading what they have done. I think there is noticeable improvement; but there was no where to go but up for me...I was/still am horrible at cooking.

My mom's meatball recipe when I was growing up was just prepared meatballs and ketchup cooked low until it changed from red to brown. It sure was tasty. I never knew it was only ketchup til I was in college LOL

That sounds good! Was it frozen meatballs or premade ones?

Try mixing a little brown sugar, a little bit of mustard and the ketchup together and see how you like the flavor. If you like it, you can make your own sauce with these basic ingredients. If you don't like mustard, then just mix a little brown sugar with the ketchup for flavor. :)
