Coke Codes

I have a ton of bottle caps from Coke and have been seeing the codes on people's WLs....how are these usually traded, included in trains, etc.? Are the codes just PMd or written down, or are the actual caps sent?

I've pm'd the codes before
I have an auction up with tons of codes and I'm just going to mail them.
When I used them in a train, I wrote a number with a sharpie on the caps and then the same number on a post-it note with the code.
If the code didn't work, I still had the cap to re-read.
