HELP!!! I'm a Coupon VIRGIN!!!

Hello Out there....I'm looking for some help! I'm new to this whole COUPON thing as I have never been the one to even look at prices but now that I'm home and not working - every penny counts! So, I've spent the last week compiling all my coupons and then headed to the store today (FRY's)...I just don't think I know what I'm doing in order to reap the most rewards.

A few questions:
1) what is doubling and tripling? How does it work and does everyone do it?
2) Can you use multiple Manufacturer coupons on 1 item?
3) Can you combine Manufacturer with store coupons and then do they double/triple too?

I see so many people saving tons of money but am really lost on how to get myself started.

Got any advise to the new girl? I've got lots of coupons but where do I go from here???

1) what is doubling and tripling? How does it work and does everyone do it?
If your store doubles or triples, then all you do is hand over the coupons and it happens by magic. This is a very regional thing however so if it is not done in your area, then it isn't done. Places that do it have restrictions, like up to .99 or up to 20 coupons, etc. Check the forum for the grocery stores in your area and you'll see if they do it and under what terms.

2) Can you use multiple Manufacturer coupons on 1 item?
Nope.

3) Can you combine Manufacturer with store coupons and then do they double/triple too?

Yes, you can combine 1 store and 1 manufacturer per item. Will they double/triple store coupons? I'm guessing no (we don't have doubles in my area) but you can find out for sure on your store forum.

Don't compare yourself to others, just enjoy your savings and watch them build over time. Don't expect to get 3 carts of stuff for .67 when you just start out.

Hey welcome to HCW
Just a little advice-get to know your store's policy. I believe there's a good Fry's forum on HCW, so check it out. But you want to be very familiar with what that store's individual coupon policy is so you can follow it and know if a cashier gives you a hard time even though you're following policy, you can make a good case for yourself.

Like pp said, don't try to do it all at once, just start out small and build on what you learn.

thanks ladies! I'm proud to say that using this site, I got 4 Almay mascaras tonight from walgreens for free!!! Yes, I mean totally free! I think I'm going to love using Coupons!

My Fry's store takes any coupon (manufacturer or competitive store) and brings them all up to $1 regardless of the amount.

Your insight will absolutely help me on my way...thanks again!

As one member suggested learn the rules at your store. Each chain has a corporate office and there are corporate rules to follow as far as coupon accepting policy. However, some corporate offices give their store managers some flexibility. It's a YMMV thing.

You can combine a Manufacturer coupon with a store coupon on 1 item, but you can not use 2 manufacturer coupons on 1 item.

Welcome to HCW...and to Walgreen's shopping, be sure to check out the forum to learn the deals. As stated before, start out slow....get to know your store's policy and learn the deals there, then venture out.
