Look at it this way. CVS is paying for one and the manufacturer is paying for the other. You get 2 for free.

The store sale is an agreement from the store that if you take home two bottles, the store will take care of the price of one bottle. They expect to make $4.99 on the sale in some form or another.

The manufacturer's coupon is an agreement that if you take home two bottles, the manufacturer will give the store the cost of one bottle ($4.99) when the store sends in the coupon for redemption.

From the store's perspective: You took home two bottles. They paid for one as stated in the sale. They got $4.99 in the form of a manufacturer's coupon they will send to the manufacturer for redemption.

From the manufacturer's perspective: You took home two bottles. They paid for one as stated on their coupon.

Both the store and the manufacturer got what they expected out of their offering (sale or coupon).

I am confused about these as well...

So if a store has a BOGO and you have a BOGO coupon...for example...shampoo. Then the one you were supposed to buy is free...you get two shampoos for free?

Sorry, its hard wrapping my mind around this couponing stuff sometimes!

    Consider it this way:
A b1g1 sale by the store is basically a clipless store coupon for buy 2 items get $ off. So say item is $1, you buy 2 & get $1 off.

A b1g1 manu coupon is basically a coupon for buy 2 items get $ off. "Stack" it on top of the clipless store coupon. Item is $1, you buy 2 & get $1 off.

    2 items = $2
    store clipless coupon = -$1
    manu coupon = -$1

    Total OOP = $0

    I hope that made sense.

Thank you. Currently, I'm not doing much trading, as my mental health has decompensated again, and I'm not doing too well. Thanks for understanding.

They did it right. When your sale rings up as a 50% off sale rather than a true BOGO, that's how it works out. If the item is usually $5, it rings up $2.50 and $2.50 then the coupon takes off $2.50. Each bottle ends up being 1/4 of the regular price.
