Tips: Dumpster Diving Tool Kit

We went for our 2nd dd ever and my husband actually got inside the dumpster! lol My kids begged to be put in, so I tossed them in there, too. I parked the car beside the dumpster in the parking lot and was able to sit with the baby while the rest of the family went through the dumpster. Everyone except my husband was back in the car ready to go, when someone pulled up. She walked around to put her papers in and saw my husband inside the HUGE dumpster with a flash light. She screamed and threw her papers on the ground. She composed herself and asked what he was doing in there. He told her, "Looking for coupons of course!" She pulled out what coupons she hadn't clipped and handed them to him. Poor woman got the shock of her life. lol

We did end up with almost a paper bag full of inserts. I have more 1/31 RP's than I know what to do with. We found those bundled up in this city's portion of the regional newspaper. Not sure where they came from, but woohoo!

I can usually only find 6ish inserts before giving up because its too cold. My toolkit would be as many coats and as many gloves as I can fit and still move!

I know! I was DDing yesterday and gave up when I could no longer feel my fingers! It was -3... no coupons were worth frost bite!

ROFL this whole thread is entertainment i am laughing so hard but ladies i applaud you for dd now i know ow some of you get so many inserts I on the otherhand AM chicken to dd

See i too am to chicken to dd. I tried it on Sunday It was not working for me lets just say. All the papers were in the bottom of bin, i could not reach was not going to climb in. Although i could have my daughter do it but she would take to long and not know what to do.

So none the less i left because everytime i tried to get out of car to get some someone else would come. So i would be left with putting a piece of paper from the car into the dumpster because i was scared to even try it. Some day, some day

my best coupons come from my neighbor's doors.
if you live in an area that has lots of apartments, they frequently get flyered with special coupons and deals. I usually let a day pass and then feel free to grab away. McDonald's regularly flyers my apartment, as does the local bar scene. It's wonderful for a starving college student.

My two nieces, ages 11 and 13, go dumpster diving with me, and have lots of fun doing it. Both girls are taller than me (I'm 5'2), and have longer arms than me, so they can reach more stuff. The 11 year old had no qualms about climbing right in! They love looking for free People and Seventeen magazines, often brand-new or just a month old.

One thing we found helpful was a bungie cord, the kind you use on your car to keep the trunk shut when it's full. We used the hook on the bungie cord and snagged several empty Coke 12pks and 24 pks.
