Default Database Questions - re adding coupons

    Hi,
I am new to couponing (about 1 month) and to this site. I have looked at many sites, including those you pay for, and for me this one seems the best. So to take full advantage of all the site has to offer I signed up as a TNT read all the instructions and FAQ's that I could find and prepared to enter my large collection of coupons (way too much time on my hands) to get my lists going....

    So here are my questions,
    1. When adding a coupon that is a printable if it appears that it is no longer available should you still enter the web address?

    2. Is it ok if it is just the coupon website and not the actual coupon?

    3. Is there someplace to make a note so that someone doesn't loose their mind trying to find it? Or could it be that it is not available to me but is there for others? ( as when I have printed my limit)

4.Also I noticed that allot of printables that I have are not in the database, is that because printables don't trade well?

    5. I think your database is the best possible way to keep a computerized list of what I have so I would like to put them all in, is that ok?

Sorry for all the questions but I am a bit obsessive compulsive and the coupon bug has bit! I've had a couple of really incredible shopping trips since finding and following this site and now I think I need an intervention!

    Thanks

    1. When adding a coupon that is a printable if it appears that it is no longer available should you still enter the web address?
If a printable is no longer available and is not in the database, I would not enter it. It gives other users a false sense that it is still available.

    2. Is it ok if it is just the coupon website and not the actual coupon?
You would want to enter the website where the coupon is. So if you got the coupon from facebook, enter the facebook url of the manufacturer. If you got it from the manufacturer's website, enter that. Get as close as you can to the coupon so other users can find it easily.

    3. Is there someplace to make a note so that someone doesn't loose their mind trying to find it? Or could it be that it is not available to me but is there for others? ( as when I have printed my limit)
Not sure what you mean by this.

    4. Also I noticed that allot of printables that I have are not in the database, is that because printables don't trade well?
Not necessarily. Sometimes people just don't enter printables in the database - I know I don't.

    5. I think your database is the best possible way to keep a computerized list of what I have so I would like to put them all in, is that ok?
Yes as long as you are very careful that you don't enter a duplicate. There are database editors on HCW (like me - they'll have the title to the left over there <--) who have to verify each entry in the database. If duplicates are entered, it is more work to go through and merge the dupes. So before entering, try searching for your coupon using a portion of the manufacturer's name, the whole name, the value, or the source just to ensure it's really not in there. But by all means, add them in!

Thank you very much for the info. You answered #3. in your answer to #1.
I'm really concerned about doing something wrong and causing you all allot of extra work. I really don't want to do that, so for now I think I will work with what is there until I get very familar with how things work.
    Thanks again,

I am the editor for the printable coupons in the coupon database (all of the other editors kind of leave them alone) so if you need help with the printable coupons, or have questions please feel free to let me know via PM.

The really important thing to note is that printable coupons should have a valid link so that everyone else can print those coupons too. We use the coupons in the coupon database in our coupon match ups in our store forums so if people enter coupons that are no longer available to print out then they are all sorts of disapointed that they can no longer print them.

First and foremost the coupon database is a tool to help you find coupons, trading is secondary.

Also if you find a printable coupon in the coupon database that has a broken link or the coupon is no longer available to print please report it so that we can remove the coupon from the coupon database. I usually check for new printable coupons and reported coupons once a day (barring I am not sick or something like that)

    great instructions!!

i find it helpful to type the word (say annie chun) and then click the space bar after the word...then it pulls up for me....you could put annie chun's but if you leave off the " 's" that will pull up those that put it in as annie chuns...this works for the smaller companies..

but if you do say pillsbury biscuits...dont put in just pillsbury because there are pages and pages...put in pillsbury refrigerated or pillsbury frozen ....play around with how you put it in...i love it because it is quick!
