SMILE Request A New Category To Be Added To The Drop Down Menu In The Coupon Database

This is the place to request a category to be added to the coupon database.

Remember: The category field in the coupon database is for what type of item the coupon/offer/item is for and where in the store it can be found at. (Example: Dairy, Deli, Pet, etc)

I will post when I have added the new category(s) and then members (YOU) will be resposible for reporting (by using the Report feature in the Coupon Database) any existing coupons that need to be categorized with that category.

Thank you! - Heidi

I posted this in the feature request thread, but I'll re-post it here:

I would suggest that we move MIR, TMF, Prescriptions, and Special Promos out of the Source dropdown and into the Categories dropdown. [Prescriptions is already there as "Pharmacy"]. Those four things really are Categories, not Sources. With that change, if I had, for example, a MIR that came from the inserts, I could select Insert for a Source and give the date. If, for example, the Special Promo is a printable form, then my Source would be Printable. As it is, people aren't consistent about what they select for Source on these sorts of items so it's hard to use that field as a filter.

Let me take that into consideration. That poses some problems with changing the existing data and how I wrap my own brain around things. I see categories as "Where you find the product in the store" Dairy in the Dairy section etc. While MIR, TMF, Special Promos are a type of offer. Prescriptions as a source is for offers on Prescription meds, either brand names or $$/$$ or transfer offers.

Anyone else wish to put in thier 2 cents on that one?

I volunteer to go through the items that are currently Source'd as MIR, etc and change their Source and Category appropriately. The easiest way to do it would be to add the items to the Category list first, edit the coupons (this will take some time), then delete the items from the Source list when they've all been moved over. That makes it easier to keep track of which items have been changed over. I wouldn't worry too much about the expired ones. I think we can just change their Source to Other and change the Category to the new one and that will be good enough. For the non-expireds, the Description will have some clues as to the Source, and if it has a link, I know the Source is Printable.

I feel similarly about the Source. In my head, the Source is where I look to find out where to get the coupon/form. If I'm looking at a MIR offer, I want to be able to look in the Source field to find out where to get the form. The MIR, TMF, and Special Promos just don't quite fit anywhere, do they? :-)

The better solution would probably be to have a third field for the type of offer: Coupon, MIR form, TMF form, Promo code, Promo token, etc. I know that's not a small change, though.

Well we could do Printable MIR, Tearpad MIR, Insert MIR....that sort of thing. As a change to sources.

I think that would make the Source field too intractable. You'd be adding something like 24 items that way.

Yeah I know not ideal, however I am not really wanting to make the other suggestion on making MIR, TMF, and special promos a category either....

going to have to keep thinking about it. Ideally members should enter if lets say a Mail In Rebate came from an insert they should put the insert info in the description. But alas I know that they do not always do that.

Tobacco might be a useful category.
