Here To Help Fatal and Intermittent Errors - Report them here

Jeff (BullCreek) our Coupon Database Developer has asked me to create a thread for our members that are getting error messages as they use the database or view related pages to report them here so that he can either see if he can fix them or offer you advice.



Before reporting a error message or bug please do the following first:
  1. Clear your cashe by holding down the shift key and
    refreshing/reloading the page.
  2. If you are running a supported browser (IE6 and later, Firefox 2 and later, Safari 3 and derivatives like iPhone and Google Chrome, Opera 9.5 and later), make sure that Javascript is enabled and that your anti-virus software is not configured to interfere with Javascipt. (Usually anti-virius software has a to temporarily disable all checks, which is a good way to see if the anti-virus software itself is the problem) - If not, please upgrade to one of the supported browsers.
If you have cleared your cache, and you are running a supported browser, and your anti-virus software is not preventing Javascript then please let us know the following information.
  • What action are your attempting when you get the error message?
    What does the error message say?
  • What browser with exact version (example: Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13) are you using?
  • What operating system with exact version and service pack (example: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3) are your using?
  • Does the problem always happen or does it only sometimes happen?
    Please explain.
  • What is your internet connection (Dialup, broadband, DSL, etc)?

ADDITIONALLY - Try resetting your cookies for Hotcouponworld, to do this follow these steps
  • Log out of Hotcouponworld by clicking the Log Out link in the orange toolbar at the top of your page.
  • Clear your cache and cookies in your browser
  • Close out your browser completley
  • Open your browser again
  • Log back into Hotcouponworld, making sure to click the "Remember Me" check box before submitting your log in.

This will reset the cookie used for Hotcouponworld, which is simply used to remember your activity here at Hotcouponworld, making the threads read, new posts, today's posts etc work properly for each individual.

To determine your browser version:
  • Firefox: Go to the "Help" menu and select "About Mozilla Firefox" .
  • Internet Explorer: Go to the "Help" menu and select "About Internet Explorer".
To determine your operating system version:
  • Windows XP: Right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. Select Properties.
  • Windows Vista: Click on the Start menu at the bottom left of the screen (Windows logo). Click on "Control Panel". Click on "System and Maintenance". Click on "Welcome Center".

I am only able to access the DB sometimes. When I can access the DB it gives me an "asynchronous request failed" error if I try to access another user's WL or HL. I get a general error message when I try to access the DB most, 97%, of the time.

I have tried reloading the page with the shift key pressed. I have disabled my anti virus (Bit Defender). Javascript is enabled. Nothing works. I have tried IE, Firefox and Opera and have the same results.

My info is:
IE 7 7.0.5730.7
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Opera Version 9.52
Build 10108
Platform Win32
System Windows XP
Java
Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.6
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional

It there anyway that a mod could delete my have lists that I managed to enter? I am going to opt out of trading here because I can't access the DB and lists and I don't want to annoy people by not responding to trade offers that I can't access. Thanks.

Thanks for providing the info. We should have also asked one more question - how are you connected to the internet? Dialup, wireless, DSL, Cable, etc. and what speed? I'm wondering if perhaps your connection is timing out before the server gets around to sending the data.

I just increased the timeout value on the userlist pages. If you wouldn't mind, please try it again. We will get to the bottom of the problem with
your help. Thanks!

Yup, dialup. :frown:After about four hours of trying, I finally got the DB to load. After getting into the DB I could view a potential trader's list!

Can you "increase the timeout value" or something similar on the DB proper? I think that is my problem.

I of course have no idea what increasing the timeout value means or does.

Thanks for confirmation about dialup. As of just a few moments ago, I have removed the timeout from both parts of the coupon DB completely, so hopefully now you and and other users on dialup won't have problems. You may need to hold the shift key while clicking Reload or Refresh to make sure you get the new code. Let me know if you have further problems. Thanks!

thats great, glad he got it to work for you. Is anyone else getting error messages and if so let him know what is going on. We want the DB to work for everyone and will try and help as best as we can to make it work.

I went to accept a trade, and got this message: We were unable to update your trade due to an internal error. Please try again later or contact an admin.


I was able to go on, and complete/comment on other trades, and went back to this particular trade, to complete it, and am continuing to get the same error message.
