starting coupon stash

I bought the Seattle Times and was bummed, they dont carry RP!! So, looks like I will be going with the Tribune, and right now, since I am on crutches and cant walk, I cannot dumpster dive, but I am not against it. I contacted Fred Meyer and they do not do deals on old papers and would not let me get the inserts. Bummer. Anyway, since I am limited, what advice do you have to get me going with a coupon stash? Should I get a subscription AND buy multiple copies of the paper?

I started out buying 4 copies of the paper each week while beginning a stockpile for my family of 5. Now, that I have an established stockpile though, I look at the preview first and only get papers the weeks that I can use most of the coupons. Seems to me that if I can only use one or two, it's easier to only order the ones I need from a clipper.
