Ok I'm not sure what your cashier was talking about but I looked at an ad for Rite Aid in California (I don't have one near me). The sale goes like this:

Colgate Optic White Toothpaste 4 oz. Manual Toothbrush 1 ct. Limit 4 +UP offers per household price with wellness+ card
    Price:2 for $7.98
    (After $6.00 +up reward, it's like paying $1.98 for 2!)

    On sale until 10/13/2011

So normally it would cost you $7.98 for 2 toothbrushes, to get the items free you would need $6.00 +up rewards (from previous transactions) plus 2 manufacturers coupons.

When you start out shopping this way...you will first have to spend a little money (like $20) at first to get your +up rewards stocked up. Then you can start shopping the deal with q's and +up rewards to get items for free or near free. Hope that helped!

sorry to bother you... what does the 6.00 + up rewards.... so are you saying that i would need to have earned a 6.00 coupon from rite aid at a previous purchase that says
I can use 6.00 towards any purchase or is it some type of 6.00 reward for specificially the toothbrush?
I hope I am making sense!!

Basically yes...here's an easier way to do this. Now I'm assuming you have no +up rewards, there's a few ways you can do this actually. (BTW +up rewards will either print at the end of your receipt or from a machine next to the register...again I don't shop right aid so I don't know exactly how they print their rewards but I do know the cashier will hand it to you) Here's your deal:

Colgate Optic White Toothpaste 4 oz. Manual Toothbrush 1 ct. Limit 4 +UP offers per household price with wellness+ card
    Price:2 for $7.98
    (After $6.00 +up reward, it's like paying $1.98 for 2!)

    On sale until 10/13/2011

NOTE: The ad says LIMIT 4 +UP offers per household price with wellness+ card...you'll need to get the wellness+ card from Rite aid when you go there. It also is saying you can do this deal 4 times.

Scenario #1 We start with $20ish
    Buy 6 toothbrushes for $7.98=$23.94
    Use 6 manufacturers coupons .50 off=$3.00 off
    You pay $20.94
You earn $18.00 in +up reward

Now you can take these $18.00 in +plus up rewards and use them on other purchases that will give you +up rewards.

Scenario #2 We start with $8.00
    Buy 2 toothbrushes for $7.98
    Use 2 manufacturers coupons .50 off=$1.00 off
    You pay $6.98
You earn $6.00 in +up rewards

Now get back in line with 2 more toothbrushes, 2 more manufacturers coupons and your newly gotten $6.00 +up rewards.

    Buy 2 toothbrushes for $7.98
    Use 2 manufacturers coupons .50 off=$1.00
    Use 1 $6.00 +up rewards
    You pay .98
You earn $6.00 in +up rewards

Repeat and repeat again...because you will in the end reach your limit of 4 deals per household.

So at the end of your trip in Scenario #2 you would have paid $9.92 for 8 toothbrushes or divide it and it comes out to $1.24 each.

I personally like Scenario #1 to start with because you earn the most amount of +up rewards to start you off. But everyone does it differently.

Hope this helped...if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask
