QUESTION Need advise on printing too much?

Hey guys. I'm still fairly new at this. I'm doing well and my husband is being really cool about me couponing so far.........

I am using up all of our printer inks! They are so expensive, and this type of ink cartrige is not the kind that can just be refilled. Am I printing too much? You know, I can't help but feel like I'm regressing on the savings, when I have to go buy ANOTHER (this is the 2nd set in 2 months) set of ink cartriges.....they are $26 each!!!!! BAGH.

I've started to get to the point that I have to throw out some I printed because they expired and I never got the good deal with them.....however I have used MANY MANY of my printables.

Does anyone have any advise on how to save with my ink cartriges.....or how to know which ones I should not be printing......

    Thanks, Jessonica

There should be a place for you to go in on Printer Preferences (or the equivalent) and set it on ink-saver mode, or to print in gray scale (no color). You have to really watch some of those coupons too because some of them will start printing a huge ad after the coupon and some are sneaky enough to print the ad BEFORE the coupon. If you are near the printer you can watch and it it starts printing junk after the coupon you can stop the printing but it's a pain to do that and you don't always know which ones will do it.

i too print ALOT. love my printables. i actually had a printer ( i still have it is the table for the new one) that the cartridges were around $26 each. it was an hp all in one. i then went to walmart and found the cheapest hp printer i could find. it is color and comes with both cartridges. the initial cost was $30. the refills are $13 for black and $18 for color.

i take my empties back to office depot and turn them in. every quarter i get a check to spend. i then try and combine this with some sort of office depot sale or coupon offer to get even cheaper ink.

i go thru probably 2 blacks a month and one color...maybe. i found that the cheaper printer works just as good and i made my money back the first month of buying cheaper ink.

I only print for product I will use, product I know my stores run on a great sale on a regular basis, items I know the q will make them free are cheap. Hope this helps. Also watch as it prints and stop before it starts printing ads.

    TONER

Best thing I did was buy a toner printer.

I just bought 4 new toners for it for $76 shipped. Could have paid $45 for one, but I went for the better deal.

So I should be set for over a year.

The first toner that came with the printer lasted me months - probably about 3 - think I bought it during the income tax sales.

I have printed all the target, bricks, redplum, coupons.com and smartsource online coupons I could find.
Went through 3 packs of paper but one toner. Read where you can shake the thing when the toner light comes on and print more. Yep, that works.

The printer was $50 and free shipping from one of the office box stores. Reg was 199.00.

I have a brother HL2240 laser printer. Doesn't do envies well, but I use the old printer for that.
There should be deals again since it's back to school sale time,,,,well almost.

Oh and I was paying about $32/every 3 weeks in ink for a single cartridge that did color and black and white. It was the cheapest printer WM had at $25.
Now I only print in black and white on the toner printer and they actually scan at the stores.
    I used 2048 q's FEB 2011 because of SFShopper ,,,offline,,,,,alot!

We have three laser printers and while their cartridges cost more initially, they greatly reduce the cost of printing vs ink jet printers.

Plus, I order my reman'd cartridges online from LD company for less than half retail and they work beautifully and produce as many page prints as the full cost OEM cartridges!

If you invest in a laser printer, you will find that it's much more cost effective especially if you purchase your cartridge needs as I do.

And with all the free paper from Staples sales and Office Max sales (especially with back to school deals coming up!), you won't be paying more than $1 a ream if that for paper - all making printing coupons cheap

Coupons are found money - who walks by money on the ground??

I can't refill my cartridges either and it's a pain. I order mine online and I hardly ever use color. It's about half price and usually free shipping. My setting is on draft black ink only. I only print the ones I will or might use which aren't very many.

I do print all of the Rite Aid VV coupons but I do that at the library.

I just bought a HP LaserJetP1102w laser printer that ONLY prints black. It's supposed to print 1500 pages before needing replaced. The cartridge costs $69 to replace.Yikes!! Had it only 3 weeks so will see if it's going to be economical.

I have a Brother laser printer and I got a good deal on it on Ebay last year. I print ALOT and only had to replace the cartridge 1 time so far. I buy my toners on ebay for 21.00 and that includes shipping, that is very cheap. Best printer I have ever had. I used to buy $30 printers and then keep buying more when I needed the ink but you couldn't get much prints out of those. The prints are very crisp, and never have any trouble scanning them and the ink doesn't fade or smear like the cheap printers I used to have.
