Dumpster Diving

My mom and I go to Bingo almost every Sunday. They one of those fundraiser Paper Dumpsters. I've been thinking about just jumping in, I asked a few of the volunteer fire fighters (that work the bingo) if I could possibly sort through some of it.
So today I finally did it. While I didn't just jump right in, I kinda stuck my hand in and zeroed in on my first insert!!!!! WOOHOO. My mom was standing there with me and started laughing. I pulled a few others out, but Bingo was going to start soon and I didn't want to miss it.
Some of the people in the parking lot just kinda stared at us (probably wondering what in the hell i was doing), a few made some remarks as we were walking past, and my mom turned around and told them about a great deal we got today.
I don't know if i was just lucky tonight, or if the coupons brought me good luck but i walked out of there $100.00 richer....and thought "Yes now I can go buy more things with coupons" lol
I was just soo excited I had to post!!!

Oh i plan on it. I told my mom we need a step stool, and she said "I'm not getting in there" and i told her no you just have to hold all the q's i find, then we can split them. lol

I say DO IT. I have been scouring my town and online and not coming up with much luck finding paper recycling bins. I even went so far as to contact through email my local recycling representatives, asking where I can recycle papers.

I do know of a place that has one....maybe under cover of darkness?? LOL. I would love to just ask and even make a donation (since this dumpster is a part of a donation program) to be allowed to. My fear is they will say no because of liability issues. If I just go in the middle of the night, no one gets hurt right? I have NO PROBLEM getting into a paper dumpster.

I get a paper delivered but multiple coupons are better than just one coupon. And when I go to buy a paper around here people always beat me to it. (I am not an early bird).

I would TOTALLY go with you and your mom and get right in there. *sigh*

SO who else dumpster dives? COme on, admit it! And if you live by a honey hole of a place with recycling bins, consider yourselves lucky

There are 2 for sure around here that we know of. I'm not sure about "diving" into the one that's at the school. Definatly have to do that after school hours, but if your in the Beaver County area pm me and we can all go together lol..

I have posted previously about having a grouping of 4 paper recycle dumpsters at a library in the small town next to me. We try to go every week. I have found that Sundays and Mondays are the best days for us. We have always came out with dozens + inserts (some are not always recent but we do a pretty good job). My 11 yo daughter likes to get in them. She thinks its fun and she has made comments about her part in the couponing. It has made a big impact on the level of deals I am able to get and I dont have to spend the extra money on buying the newspapers. There are some other of the paper dumpsters around town but in more conspicuous areas and like you Ive gotten looks but no one has said anything. I say do it as long as it works for you.

Hi, I'm sorry this is probably a stupid question but, where would you go to find the dumpsters? are they usually at a recycling plant? are we technically aloud to go in them or will we get in trouble? I actually have no idea where these would even be in my city. Thanks for the help :)

You have to check with your local laws but I am pretty sure you CAN get into trouble for being in a dumpster. IF you get caught. LOL. I haven't actually gone into one so don't listen to me. I use a shed that people dump their papers off and farmers use the paper for animal bedding.

I actually got a few extra coupon inserts simply by having my husband ask his family. Simply asking around does not hurt, worst they can say is no, right? I say any insert gotten without having to pay is more money in your pocket. I know the reasoning behind buying coupons, I just don't think I could do it. Seems to defeat the purpose.

SHANARENEA, as tempting as that sounds, and I am sure we would have fun, Beaver is a tad out of the way for me :)

my son has been dumpster diving twice now he seems to enjoy it and we scored alot of great coupons doing it,i can't climb in one or id join him

it is best to ask permission to go on soeone else's property, just in case. reemmeber some places offer $ for recycling.

recycling dumpsters i would guess could be on apartment building lots, city ones (this is a definate check first) like where my sister is located has them on store lots thru out the city, near the recycling places, church's, businesses etc.

i think it would be one you would have to explore and see what you find to determine if it would be worth coming back
