Peelie question--"Only valid if removed by cashier"

I bought a box of Cheez-Its yesterday because I was sick and craving them. They weren't on sale (bad padmelupin!) but I didn't much care. Some boxes had peelies on them that said Save $1/2 Keebler and/or Sunshine crackers.

On the bottom it says, "Not valid unless removed by cashier." I've never seen this before! I wasn't going to buy two boxes of crackers that weren't on sale no matter how badly I craved them...now I'm wondering if I can use that coupon in the future...?
