Thanks for the warning I don't remember seeing this discussed here, but I am sometimes wrong... unlike cashiers who always think they are right... couldn't resist that.

Well I can tell you this story, a couple months back one of the stores I shop at had aleve on sale for $.99 WITH THE COUPON ON PACKAGE, was exactly how it was advertised in sthe sale paper. Price on sale was $1.99 and there was a $1.00 peelie on the package making it .99 cents.

So I go to buy some and as I'm coming up the aisle I see a woman standing there taking the peelies off the Aleve packages and putting the aleve back on the shelf!

So I politely walked right up to her and said "excuse me, I need to get some Aleve", and had to sort through the boxes to find the ones with the peelies so I could buy them for the .99 cents.

She didn't budge, instead she tried to edge me out of the way and starting grabbing for the Aleve boxes. Mind you she didn't have ONE in her cart, all she was after was the peelies.

I turned and looked right at her and loudly said "are you buying these? Because if your not you can't quit taking the peelies off the ones I WANT TO BUY!"

She backed off but still didn't leave, so I grabbed about 8 boxes of Aleve, which were the only ones left with peelies on them and tossed them into my cart, as this is the only OTC I can take with my other medications.

She then looks at me and says "Are there any left?" I said, "Yeah all the ones you have the peelies for!" And she just walked away without putting one in her cart.

There had to be atleast close to 18 boxes left on the shelf that she took the peelies off of. Now how can the store get reimbursed for the $1.00 off on each box? You know they had to honor the sale even though the peelies were gone, so yes in my opinion, it is theft.

I actually have more of a problem with stores advertising peelies as advertised savings. Stores don't pay to put peelies on and there is no guarantee they will still be there when the sale is going on, and yes I have before gone to buy things at wags advertised to have peelies on them and found none. (but at wags I always assume it is the store clerks removing the coupons.) If an item was advertised to have the peelie on it I wouldn't have taken it, and just so we are clear they were three peelies found on one product with savings off a different product.

I gotcha I wasn't blaming you by any means, I was just saying in my post that she was blatantly taking them off knowing they were part of a sale price and it wasn't just one or two or three she took. She cleaned off almost every Aleve box on the shelf, sans the ones I managed to get.

I have noticed lately that alot of the stores I shop at are starting to advertise sales on products with peelies attached, whereas before they would never do a sale like that.

I'm thinking it's something NewsAmerica is behind (smartsource company) as a way to promote more coupon usage or keep their merchandisers honest LOL.

Either way, I personally don't believe in taking peelies off products because technically once it is applied to that product it becomes part of the product. But as I said, just my opinion and no disrespect was meant to you if you felt that way.

Nope its cool, I just wanted to agree with you that I think what she was doing is incredibly rude and definitely wrong as they were advertised as being part of the sale!

I have taken a couple peelies in the store on a day that I wanted to use them on something else I was buying (peelies were on Raisin Bran and I wanted to use them on the other cereal I was buying). I think I took 2 or maybe 4. In general I don't think there is anything wrong with it, definitely don't think it is "stealing" although it can be annoying if you go to buy something and see every package with a torn area where the peelie was ripped off. But, first come, first served.

OP, what happened to you exactly?

Usually I make a mental note, or I'll take one and enter it on my list so I know it's out there. Sometimes it's not even worth the bother. (15¢ off a $4 box of trash bags?)

If I do take any I try to get them from the items at the back or bottom of the display or pile. I confess, though, when I did the Dove deal at CVS this week I took a peelie from a shampoo and used it for a conditioner. :\

I think taking a bunch of them is selfish, but to single that out among other "selfish" activities (like taking most of a tearpad or clearing a shelf or buying a buttload of glucose meters for the RRs/ECBs/rebates and then justifying it with a "but I donate!") is myopic at best.

My thoughts are if you think so don't do it and if it don't bother you peel away.

I peel all the time. I ALWAYS leave some. I think if I were to take them all then the coupons fairy would never leave me anymore. Works for me.

    *Evil laughter*

It's not stealing, in fact, I take all the peelies, every time. And it doesn't stop there either. I take all the blinkies, tearpads, catalinas, I'll even take a coupon from another customer's hand if she's not fast enough and YOU CAN'T STOP ME!
