I wait until late evening and make a trip to rummage through the cans. I have found many good things there, including several $10 q's for Family Dollar!! I'd say that was worth getting my hands dirty. :giggle:
I am so hitting the post office!

Try the earth911 site regarding newspaper and punch in your zip code and you'll get a list of bins in your area.

In our area the paper-only bins are provided by Paper Retriever and you can also get a list by entering your zip code.

Since the bins are fundraisers, most the schools have them and are also popular with churches. Recycling isn't offered curbside at my house so I take all our cardboard to the schools and distribute office paper, newspapers, etc to the church bins. They get back waay more than I take considering all the waste paper that's generated from printables.

In our area, we have recycle bins that we put out to the curb every Sunday night with the garbage. I usually go for a walk around the neighborhood on Sunday nights armed with a flashlight and a tote bag. :) I also have about 15 people at my church saving inserts for me and 10 of our Block Club members.

I have a question about the Paper Retrievers recycle bins: If it is on the property of a school or library, is it OK to take papers out of them? I know that they get paid by the pound and I don't want to be accused of stealing from their money-making resource.

Every day my job receives newspapers (about 50). On Sundays I take as many inserts as I would like. Other people only take one or two so I take whatever I want, for free. They are there at our disposal. :) I'll never leave!

I have been told that they cant give discounts with papers that have coupon insterts in them. Only the regular discounts that they off news paper home offers.

I asked about buying just the inserts and they told me that they have to sign a contract saying that they would not sell just the inserts that any not sold in the paper have to be burned/shreaded...

Does anyone live in Alabama? I live in a small town but I have two small towns within a few miles on either side. I have picked up on a lot of good advice from all of you. i have no place to "Dumpster Dive" but I know several store owners that I am going to check with. You have to be careful becaue where I live I get the Birmingham News and the Huntsville Times. I usualy go to the BP stations where they have those inside becuse people were stealing them out of the box. There has been several weeks that they wouldn't have any so I wouldn't buy the pape. The clerk told me that he delivery person said they didn't have to put them in if they didn't want to. I called the Birmingham News and told them what they said and they said that wasn't right. Got an email the other day from the Birmingham New s sayinghow sorry they were that I was having that problem. They got my adddress so I am hoping to get some in the mail. If there is anyone in Albertville, al please let me know.
Thanks, my name is Patti and I am fairly new to all this. I would like to know how these people get up to the register with $6000 in groceries and then when they ring out the coupons they owe nothing. How is that possibe?????

As far as coupons - I would trade for them or put out recycling boxes for people to drop off inserts. Lot's do it at work and church's. Even some libraries and banks will allow it.

To touch on the 2nd part of your post. I shop in the Birmingham stores, so def not your area - but I believe you have Kroger and Publix up there - both stores can get you freebies. If you are close - bi-lo and Ingall's can net you some freebies too.
,,,,As far as the show your refer to - lots of discussions on here that some stores let the shoppers by pass normal store limits to get the deals. Some even used coupon fraud and didn't buy the correct items - according to reports. I don't watch the show - so just passing on what I read. Def not a real attainable goal to couponing for a stockpile.
There are ways to play and still follow the rules. Shop at multiple stores. I often shop a loop of up to 7 stores. I have relatives that will team up with me to shop - and we make a day of it. Then I can buy 6 of each item and have 40 + of the freebie when I get home. If it's a huge money maker or something we really need - we make 2 trips in the week.

Just a tip, I would advise you to join the trading group and start trading for rebates. Our state does not require the alcohol purchase and there are several rebates valid in our state. It's how I save on meat, produce and things we don't get good deals on.

    I used 2048 q's FEB 2011 because of SFShopper ,,,offline,,,,,alot!

Recycyling depot's Asking neighbors and ordering inserts online are all good ways. Anything is better then buying 20 newspapers each week.
