Default tear pad at gas station Q

I was at a gas station and wanted to get some coupons off the tear pad they had and the lady said I could not take them. She said I had to use the tear pad coupons there. She took them away from me and said I could not have them unless I use them at that gas station. Anyone have this happen? If a gas station has tear pad is it "illegal" to take them and use them elsewhere? Thanks

At all the BP stations around here they keep all the tearpads behind the counter. You can see them stacked up there. Sometimes there will be an empty pad on the cooler door and there will be a note on it to see the cashier for a coupon. So I hardly ever get any of the good tearpad Q's that everyone else on here sees/gets.

Really? I went in there are around 6am so of course they were not busy and I heard someone from the back talking to the cashier (who was in the back with the door open) saying I was taking coupons. They were of course watching me on the monitor. Cashier came out and asked me what I had in my hands and said I couldn't have them. I took like 3 or 4 of each kind ( $1 off ice cream, soda BOGO, nestle quick 40cents off). She said they were to be used at their store... I asked her to see it and she hesitated and said I could not have them. I said I'm not going to take them if you said I can't have them, but I want to read it to see what it actually says. So she let me look at it.

So is it considered "stealing" if I take a Q from a tearpad and don't use it? Maybe I should have gotten a cup of coffee... I guess I should be a little more stealth?

I would have looked her right in the eye and told her if it was stealing feel free to call the cops.

There was an incident near me where the cops were called for a similar incident. It was reported someone "took all the coupon booklets" and when the cops arrived it was explained they were there for "take one, free, etc" and obviously nothing was done.

Most likely they will not call the cops and back down. Or the cops will come, have good laugh and move on.

I've always took them and have never been challenged. However, I usually am buying something. I would try again and say "look, I'm buying X" which I'll be happy to leave right here if you're gonna hassle me, is it worth losing a customer, and said customer's friends?"

She was wrong. plain and simple. The vendors put them there NOT the gas station. They put them there so customers will be more likely to buy their products.

If you are in doubt of this send an email to even one of the companies that there was a tearpad for... Say I saw a coupon on a gas station door that I would like to use at a grocery store. Is that ok. the gas station employee said I HAD to use the coupon at that establishment. The coupon did not say "must be redeemed at XYZ gas station" I am sure you would like me to buy the product regardless of where, correct?

Then print their reply and hand it to her with a smile.

OR go back in and ask her to show you where on the coupon it says "must be redeemed where found or at such and such location".

She just may not understand and may think her employer puts them out to boost sales who knows? but I always try to show them that I am in "in the right". Maybe even go back in and talk to the boss.

    Good luck!!

I had this happen to me at a CVS awhile ago. I was pulling a few Qs off the pad when a lady came up, gave me a nasty look and told me that I was only allowed to use them then and there. She then stood behind me and waited to see what I would do. I told her I was considering it and walked away. A little while later, I went back, grabbed a bottle and since she wasn't nearby several Qs anyways, lol.

I have no idea why people have gotten so weird about the Qs lately. Anyone else noticed this or is it just me?
