QUESTION Whatever happened to FOOD coupons?

Last time I couponed, at least eight years ago probably, could be ten or more, there were lots of food coupons for everyday stuff. I remember Bisquick, Del Monte vegetables, Gortons and Mrs. Pauls frozen seafood, many types of frozen dinners, frozen vegetables.

What really shocks me since I restarted couponing in May '08 is how very little "staples" there are and the overwhelming flood of cleaning products and toiletries.

I refer here to the Sunday inserts. But even magazines don't seem to have anything worth clipping any more.

    Is it just me?

Nope, its not you. I get and cut 50+ inserts a week. By the time I'm finished cutting my non-food pile is always double the size of my food pile. I also have my extras in clear plastic shoeboxes. I have 3 for non-food and 2 for food. The non-food boxes are literally stuffed.

My BF and I were talking about this too. I remember always having coupons for things like bisquick, crackers, canned & frozen veggies, & frozen fish. The one I really miss having are the ones for the bisquick muffins. I remember getting those free all the time. Ah.... the good old days, lol.

I guess my area must be different....my food binder is busting t the seams. My non-food binder has room to spare.

Might be because I try to get extras of the food ones

op you can ALWAYS email the company of the product and tell them how much you love them, but cant afford them due to lack of coupons

The processed food coupons still exist. You can find fruit and veggie coupons in organic booklets. My train envelopes are normally full of these coupons.

I noticed this imbalance a few days ago. I had two train wish lists which requested 90% food. Luckily, I had enough of the 10% HBA to fill the envelopes.

I thought it was just the time of year, but I've been waiting for the standard hot dog/hamburger/cookout stuff, ketchup/mustard/bbq, etc. but I've been sorely dissapointed. I've only seen 2 hot dog coupons and 1 ketchup coupon, and they are all worse than the ones we got last year.

I send my expired/leftover coupons overseas. I separate them into two Ziploc bags- food and non-food. The non-food bag is always twice the size of the other one.

Where are the Hidden Valley Ranch, Kraft Mayo, Del Monte canned veggies, etc. Q's? Maybe they get them in another part of the country.

So glad you brought this up - I have had to do more work to find good food Qs - trading, calling/emailing companies, looking for WTs and tearpads, IPs - all the regular stuff that most of us do.

I never run out of HBA - my food stock pile is another story... Of course, I eat more than I wash my face!

Now that you mention that it got me to thinking. In years past I remember getting coupons for relish, pickles, kraft bbq sauce, (I haven't seen one of those in the inserts in years!), good pasta coupons, chips, dips, hot dog & hamburger rolls. This year, nothing! I haven't seen a good chip coupon in 6 months or better.
If garnier, lotion, greased lightening, and makeup could be used for a summer BBQ I'd be eating free for the rest of the summer, lol.
