Pick N Save - Unilever 8/2/09-8/12/09

Apparently we're now receiving Valassis inserts (Red Plum and P&G) in home mailer, so I was able to pick up a copy today.

Inside, Red Plum (8/2) I noticed this Ad for Pick n Save, regarding some sort of promotion for Unilever items.

Save up to $7 on your next shopping trip When you purchase $20 in participating Unilever products. Participating products are shown below. Offer valid in a single transaction. Coupon presented at the checkout. Offer good 8/2/09-8/12/09.

Seems like $7 for $20 spent, and $5 for $15 spent.

Hellmann’s Mayonnaise @ 2/$6, Buy 2 and get a free loaf of Roundy’s Bread
-$.60/2 hellmann's from 8/2 RP (doubled 1.20 = 2.40 each, plus free bread)

Wish-Bone or Western Salad Dressing @ 2/$2.98, Buy 2 get a free Fresh Express Garden Salad
-$1.00/2 from 8/2 RP (doubled 2.00 = .98 each, plus free salad)

Ragu Pasta Sauce @ 2/$4**, Buy 2 get a free Roundy’s Pasta
-$.75/2 from 8/2 RP (doubled 1.50 = 1.25 each, plus free pasta)

** according to Frugal Gossip, Ragu pasta sauce are 1.85 each, however, I cannot confirm the price and/or this could just be a regional price difference?

This may not be the greatest deal out there, but seems like this may be a great way to stock up on Dove shampoo or Wishbone/Western salad dressings, if you go next Wednesday for double coupon days.

There was a similar deal to this a few months ago which included Skippy Peanut Butter. I had some great tear pad coupons I found from another grocery store that included free items and allowed for some stacking.I'll be on the hunt for some higher value coupons. At least we have 2 doubles Wednesdays to work with!

It is a bit sad because you can't get red plum in Milwaukee Journal Sentinel anymore :( But fortunately for me, I am able to obtain multiple copies because I live in a semi-high rise with teeny tiny mailboxes. So any "mailers"/junkmails don't get stuffed in the individual mailbox, rather, they leave a bin out for anyone to grab if they wish (otherwise, get recycled before the next stash of junkmails and ads and such come in).

I actually got 2 of the same Red Plum inserts in the Waukesha Freeman today. I've been buying that Saturday paper which has the coupon inserts
for $.75, which to this point has the same inserts as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It had P&G ads (2 of the same) today also, but no Smart Source. I saw another Waukesha Freeman paper at another location that had Smart Source but no Red Plum. The Chicago Tribune is $3.00 but well worth it to me because they have all the inserts, plus more thorough Red Plum ad this week. I notice it usually has significant coupon and coupon value differences from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. This weekend, it has the Lipton coupon at $1/2 while the Waukesha Freeman coupon for Lipton is $.50/1. The PNS ad price is 2/$6.00. I also found tearpad coupons at Woodman's today for Buy $5 worth of Lipton Tea Products and
save $1.50. I also have a Mail-In Rebate for "Buy 3 Lipton Iced Tea To Go-10 pack products and get $5.00 back by mail". This will be sweet with the PNS Buy $15 save $5 OYNO deal!

I am fairly new to all of this and I wondering, is the Unilever spend $20 amount/get $7 before or after you use coupons? Also, I am debating whether or not to use my $20 Pick n Save gift card from my premiums tomorrow for double coupon/Kellogg's $10 rebate deal. Any thoughts/suggestions?

You must spend $20 BEFORE calculating coupons :) So it should be less than $20 for frugal folk!
I am not sure about gift cards, but as they are a form of payment (like coupons) I don't think it should affect the CAT coupon.

I have a question off topic a little. Someone said the Milwuakee Journal doesn't have the Red Plum anymore but they get it mailed. How do you get it mailed to you and do you have to live in Milwaukee to receive it in the mail? I live in Wausau and alway buy the Journal because the Wausau paper doesn't have many coupons in their inserts but now if I can't get the Red Plum in the Journal I will have to buy the Wausau paper for the Red Plum and the Journal for the good Smart source coupons unless maybe they would mail me the Red Plum.

Great question, since the Green Bay Press Gazette is awful coupon-wise. I personally don't need a dog themed purse, polyester pants, or a posture bra....

Unfortunately "they" (as in Valassis marketing company) choose to include some areas as part of homemailer and some included in the papers, I don't think you have much choice. One major downside about getting the inserts within their "home mailers" (like along with your local ads and flyers) is that it's likely you'll be only able to receive only one copy per household and no real way of obtaining multiple copies, whereas, if they're in the paper, you buy as many papers as you like.

Here is a way to find out whether you receive your RedPlum (and P&G) via home mailer or find in the local paper: RedPlum: Where can you find your RedPlum Coupon Book?

I'm not sure Wausau or Greenbay area, but I know most stores in Milwaukee does carry some Chicago-based papers (at least I know I can find Chicago Tribune from drugstores nearby), that may be the next best option. They're slighly more expensive than MJS (though that could be b/c MJS is my 'local' paper?) but they'll have both RP and SS and is from a large city. That's another option I'd suggest for you to look, if they're available.
