Default Burnt French Peanuts

Burnt French Peanuts
-- Great for cocktail parties, or as a filler in a tin with some holiday cookies!

Ingredients:

1 C white sugar
½ C water
2 C raw peanuts
red food coloring, as needed

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Using a saucepan, dissolve sugar in the water on medium high heat.

Add the peanuts. Cook until the nuts are covered with the syrup. Add red food coloring when the syrup starts to get thick. When no syrup is left and the nuts are completely coated, remove from heat.

Transfer nuts onto a cookie sheet, making a single layer. Bake for 30 minutes at 300 degrees. Stir nuts and redistribute over the sheet every 5 minutes.

Cool before eating.

Wow, I didn't know you can make these. I love them. And it doesn't sound too hard to do. Thanks.

We make them in batches with green too, to mix with the red at Christmas time. I have been making them for years!!
