Grandma C's Frosted Orange Cookies Grandma C's Frosted Orange Cookies
makes 5 dozen Ingredients
1 C shortening
1 C white sugar
2 eggs
4 C all purpose flour
1 t (heaping) baking powder
1/4 t salt
1 C butter milk (you can make sour milk if you don't have this)
1 t baking soda
juice of 1 medium orange (juice the second and set aside to make the glaze)
grated zest of 2 oranges (Save a bit for the glaze)
1 box powdered sugar (For glaze)
2 T butter (For glaze)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well. Mix in buttermilk and baking soda. Add orange juice and most of the orange zest.
Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder.
Mix alternately dry ingredients and liquid ingredients until combined.
Drop cookies on a greased cookie sheet by scant teaspoonsfull.
Bake 14 minutes at 350 degrees.
When cool, frost with box of powdered sugar, 2 T butter, a touch of orange zest and enough orange juice to make a good spreading consistency.
