Re: Rice Krispies Treats I'm new to this site, but I think I've just found my favorite forum.
We love Rk treats here, I started making them for the treat to share at school for my son's birthdays years ago. Much easier for him to transport than cupcakes and no mess for the teacher to deal with, plus since no one else seemed to bring them, he had a kind of unique treat. Cheaper for me too, since I can find store brand krispies on sale all the time.
The original recipe calls for 6 cups of cereal, 3 tablespoons of butter and the small bag (10.5 oz) of mini-marshmallows. I add 1 tsp of vanilla extract and increase the butter by 2 tablespoons.
Birthday Krispies are just the regular recipe with colored sprinkles added while still warm, cut into squares and individually wrapped in colored saran wrap. It's amazing how festive it looks when you've got a whole bag of them in a few different colors of plastic wrap.
Black Forest Krispies:
10.5 oz bag minimarshmallows
5 1/2 cups choco-krispies
3/4 cup dried cherries
1 stick real butter
1 tsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. vanilla
Pre-measure your cereal and mix the cherries thru it, you don't want to be searching for measuring cups once things are hopping.
Unwrap your stick of butter and slice off a third of the stick. Use the small bit to generously lube up a 13X9 pan, set aside what's left. Toss the other 2/3 stick into large pot to start melting.
Once butter melts, toss in minimarshmallows and stir to coat.
As marshmallows begin melting, add vanilla and cocoa powder, keep stirring.
Once things are nicely gooey, grab your pre-measured chocolate krispies and cherries and toss them in, stir madly to blend.
Dump out into the buttered 13X9 as soon as your blended. Set aside pot and spoon for kids to lick clean when cooled.
Grab that tiny bit of butter you had left and butter your hands, firmly press the rapidly cooling mess down into the pan, as even as you can get it.
By the time you wash your hands, call the kids and let them lick the pot and spoon and then wash up the dishes used, they'll be cool enough to cut and enjoy. Total chocolate goodness with little hidden chewy cherry bits throughout. |
