Default Re: Totino's and Jeno's pizza recalled due to E. coli

I didn't see this in any previous post, so I thought I'd add it, in case anyone needs it.

For more information, contact General Mills at 1-800-949-9055.

i've decided i'm just going to throw away the 3 i have in the freezer. there are coupons on the boxes- i'll cut those out and call it even. saving $1 on chex mix pays me back for the pizza, lol!

it does remind me why cooking from scratch, growing my own, and buying local is best, though! guess this is a wake-up call for me!!!

I called the toll-free number this morning to find out about the pizza rolls and there was a recording that stated that no other products are affected except the 2 announced. I still don't feel totally good about giving my kids the pepperoni pizza rolls, though.

I just bought 5 boxes of the Pizza Rolls yesterday; 1 Pepperoni and 2 Combo with pepperoni. I won't eat them yet, and if I need to throw them out it was only 20c per box wasted!

I totally agree. If all these recent recalls aren't a wake-up call for people then I don't know what is. I know convenience foods are a just that "a convenience", but is it really worth it to risk making your family sick? Definitely something to think about.

Doesn't necessarily have to do with government inspections of food. Could be whoever is handling the food isn’t washing their hands thoroughly enough after using the restroom. Could be the foods aren’t cooked well enough by whoever is taking care of the cooking process. I know most of the process of foods are handled by machines, but there are real live people along the line somewhere that do handle the food itself and oversees the control of the cooked temperature. :shrug7: Just a thought!

Goodness, I hope it doesn't include Pizza rolls! Although with the amount of pizza rolls my kids have consumed they may have built up a tolerance!

I'm not sure that it's necessarily a hygiene issue. "Lunch meat" type meats are renown for the kinds of bacteria they can harbor. That's why most places that produce bologna, salami, pepperoni, and the like have their own microbiology lab in place. They actually culture the meat and see if anything pathogenic grows. Although it's usually not E. Coli but Listeria....

once not too long ago, dh and i had walked into a grocery store not in our own regular 'shopping radius' to grab a small something or other. dh had to use the restroom. when he came out, he remarked to me that an employee had also been in the restroom- having <ahem> used the stall with the door on it (as opposed to standing at the wall...) and had walked out without washing his hands. a moment later he blanched and pointed out an employee who was handling the fresh produce- it was that man who had not washed his hands. yes there was soap in the restroom cause dh did wash! i said i am so glad this is not my usual store- though i did make note that anyone, anywhere- employee or customer- could handle things with dirty hands, so always always always wash your produce before eating it!!!

and dh did also discreetly 'report' that employee to the manager before we walked out of that store- without having purchased a thing!
