I got some for Christmas but I am not likely to use them. I do sort out reds or anything I think might bleed and I will wash those together. But I've never had a problem with colors running.

I use them the first time I wash new clothes and when I wash something that is striped (like DD's red & white striped shirt). It does do something because it comes out a different color, pink, gray, etc. I recently told my sister about them because she does really small loads and just throws everything together...when I saw a pink tank top that used to be white, I suggested she try them...she said they seem to be working for her. I don't use them on a regular basis because I do sort out my darks from my lights, but have found them useful on that first time wash of DD's new clothes!
I think they help - I don't think they make it so that you can wash a new red top with a load of whites... but I do think they work. If I wash new clothes, I always through one in and it does catch alot of lose dye. But they don't make it so that you can wash black and white stuff together.
