Well, after a few fuel pump and fuel filter ($557) for the vehicle that won't start, I went and bought the pin punch and got out the first pin I need to get out...scraped off all the grease (OMG SO MUCH GREASEEEEEE!!! IT IS GROSS!!!) and found the broken part, just like the video said, it is the worm gear, and it was shredded! I don't know what my friend did to it, but you can tell right where it scraped it off...The part is nylon (not plastic like everyone says) and it is HARD, I thought it was metal because it was gray and my friends is yellow (I am taking her's apart too and fixing it for her), but when I went to order I read it now is yellow but that piece replaces the gray or yellow part...
Anyway her's is leaking oil too, but that is an even EASIER Fix, literally it just needs the grease replaced (that you use a putty knife with the grease)...the down side is the grease is $20 for a 1lb can because it is food grade (I have learned SO MUCH doing this!)...but literally for $50 and a little bit of my time, I will have fixed both mixers and not needed to replace it for $450 which we DO NOT HAVE (there is now a new problem with the Explorer now!) and my friend is going to put her's on Craigs list to sell so she can get a Cuisinart since she needs something that can handle the bread, hers apparently can't.

    Mixer update...
I got my friend's mixer apart and the worm gear and grease replaced and her mixer works fine....my mixer on the other hand I replaced the gear and grease and now it won't turn on. My son was the one to partially take.it apart so I don't know what the problem is. We really don't have the money to get it fixed ($100) or replaced ($400).

Well I stuck with it and figured out why it wouldn't turn on, either hubby or #1 didn't put the carbon brush in the right way....I am kinda ticked that they really marked up my mixer with scratches but atleast it works now. I also know that my mixer can't mix/handle more than 7 cups of flour in a recipe.

I'm glad you got it fixed.

I wonder if they just don't make Oster kitchen centers like they used to. I never hear them among modern recommendations. Mine is about 20 years old and still a real work horse. My mother's was old and lasted forever as well. I wonder why they have dropped out of favor or if the quality just isn't what it used to be. Nobody ever says, "Get an Oster!" anymore.

It's such a drag that so many appliances made now (from big to small) don't last like they did when we were young. Remember when our parents had a washer/dryer/fridge etc., for 20 or more years?? A lot of times now you're lucky to get 5 years from them and when they need a repair or part it often costs nearly as much as a new machine so then you have that dilemma - repair or replace.

For my wedding gift my mom bought me a top of the line Cuisinart food processor with every imagineable disc. It only lasted a couple of years even with very light use - a couple of times a month. This was supposed to have a lifetime warranty too but when I contacted the company it had changed hands and they no longer honored those warranties. Made me sick.
