Default Mirena, like it or dislike it?

Has anyone ever had the Mirena put in for birth control? Did you have any problems?

My sister has one. She recently got a huge cyst on her ovary from hers. Also a friend of hers gets cysts too. Doc says it is common with mirena and if it happens frequently they'll put you on the pill too. But she says her period has all but stopped.

Had one for 4 years-haven't had a period since the first month it was put in. No side effects here :)

I think it's totally worth it. Nothing to remember, I like it. A little uncomfortable to get put in, but I have very light periods now and no side effects

My sister has one. She said she was uncomfortable for the first few days after it was put in, but now, she doesn't even think about it. Her period is lighter than normal and no bad cramping.

I had mine in for 22 months between DD2 and baby #3. It was the best. I had 2 periods - one 5 months after I got it and another 3 months later, and nothing since. So I went 16 months with no period until I got it out. I have no trouble with hormonal bc, so I knew the Mirena would be okay. Some people do complain of a lot of spotting after it's inserted or cramping and such. Most people have a reduced period or it goes away completely. It does not affect ovulation - only makes sure there's no lining in your uterus for a baby to implant on, which is why your period is lighter or non-existent.

This is just what I was going to share in case you are pro-life and believe birth begins at conception. I don't think many in the medical field share this information. I know my doctor, pro-life, didn't when I used the pill or the depro shot. Once I found this out, my personal decision was not to use those. You may or may not feel the same way, but wanted to create awareness.

I had one for 5 years and no problems at all! I barely had a period and no cramps. Now that I don't have it my periods are so irregular and I have horrible cramping.

I was going to but I have never had kids so my doctor didn't feel it was a good option for me. Are you planning on anymore children? If not check out the Essure. Using a scope, small springs are inserted into your tubes and over 90 days scar tissue builds up blocking your tubes. The procedure is similar in time plus you don't have to be put to sleep. Plus it is really ubber cool to see what your uterus looks like!!!!
