As part of a manufacturer’s recall, Tops Markets has removed from its shelves several varieties of Pedigree dog food.

Mars Petcare U.S. is recalling the dog food because of a potential contamination with salmonella. The recalled products include: Pedigree large breed original, size 20 pounds and UPC code 2310029158; Pedigree mealtime crunchy bites small, size 4.4 pounds and UPC code 2310005104; Pedigree small crunchy bites beef, size 32 pounds and UPC code 2310031483; and Pedigree small crunchy bites, size 20 pounds and UPC code 2310014719.

Consumers who purchased the above products are urged to return them to the store for a full refund. Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Mars Consumer Care line at (866) 298-8332.

As part of a manufacturer's recall, Giant Food Stores has removed from shelves packages of Pedigree dog food because of potential salmonella contamination, according to a news release.



According to the release, the voluntary recall involves Pedigree Large Breed Original, Pedigree Mealtime Crunchy Bites Small, Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites Beef and Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites.




No illnesses have been reported by pet owners.



Consumers who have purchased the above brands of Pedigree dog food should return the packages to the store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the Mars Consumer Care Line at 866-298-8332.

Products affected include Old Roy Dog Food, Pedigree Dog Food, Special Kitty Cat Food and several lesser known brands including Members Mark Pet Foods and Wegman´s Pet Foods. The press release states: "Salmonella can cause serious infections in dogs and cats, and, if there is cross contamination caused by handling of the pet food, in people as well, especially children, the aged, and people with compromised immune systems."

I don't think Wegmans sells Old Roy... pretty sure that's a Wal-Mart only brand.

Thank You! for that information. I have not seen that info anywhere else and my dog eats Pedigree Small Bites. That used to be the safe brand when they had that wheat recall :( .

Anyone else concerned that all these brands are hypothetically packaged by the same place? Makes you question the quality of Pedigree a wee bit. I saw some signs the other day but its nothing we feed regularly.

It definitely does make you wonder! I don't like pedigree anyway because of the byproducts I've seen in some of their foods, but my mom uses Ol Roy dry food to mix with the wet food I get, so that will end lol. I have tried a lot of different kinds and I will only use Science Diet or Nutro Natural Choice now - least amount of byproducts I've seen by far.
