Nurse Please be advised when using Clairol Perfect 10..

I have an nice stockpile of the Clairol Perfect 10 from the Target deal awhile back.

Thursday afternoon I decided to color my hair and try out this product. I loved that it only took 10 mins, that it didn't stain my skin and the odor wasn't too bad.

Thurday night I noticed that my left side of my scalp hurt and a lump was forming.
Sleeping that night was not meant to be. Every time I layed on my left side it HURT. I had a major headache from the lump up to my forhead.
I asked my SIL and DH to look at it and they said it could be a boil or an ingrown hair.
Tues I had my Mom look at it. She said it looked like a pimple and it had a head. She went ahead and popped it and was amazed at all the puss coming out of it.
Tuesday night I noticed more lumps. But only on the left side of my head. Started to get real nervous, thinking maybe a tic got into my scalp and started to lay eggs.
Wednesday I went top the clinic and was told I have an infection. Gave me Antibiotics and Tylenol 3 for pain. Was told it should heal w/i a week but if I noticed any more lumps to go to a dermatologists.

I decided to call Clairol to see if this is a known reaction. The Rep told me that they added a new type of ammonia to the product that that may be what I'm allergic to that gave me the infection.

Now, I grew up in a hair salon and was always getting my hair colored and permed , back in the day, and never had any problems.

While on the phone with Clairol she had asked me if I had done the allergy test. I told her no. Guess I learned my lesson.

So, the moral of my post is that if you are going to use this for the first time, please take the time to do the allergy test. I would hate for any one to go through what I'm dealing with.

Yes, they are going to reimburse me for 2 boxes so that'll cover my perscription costs.
I didn't call wanting a refund I just wanted to know if they changed anything or if this has happened to others.

thanks! we never do the allergy test either.
I am brand loyal to clairol for dh's stuff. But if they made a change, allergy tests it is.
Thanks

Thank you so much for the warning. My daughter is getting married this coming weekend and I was going to color my hair using this stuff (with no allergy test of course) Thursday night. Think I'll just use one of my trusted brands from the stockpile.

I so hope you are feeling better.

I used this recently, and loved that it only took 10 minutes. However, my head really started burning after about 8 minutes, and I had to wash it off. I have always used Loreal Excellence, and never have had this problem. I guess that is the price we pay for convenience!

Wow, thanks for sharing!! I never do the allergy test, I figured if I'd used a few other brands with no trouble I'd be ok.

Geesh! That's terrible, I would have been freaking out!

I never do an allergy test either. I haven't used this one yet, but was thinking about it instead of Nice and Easy, my old standby that I leave in 45 minutes. Perfect 10 claims great gray coverage.
