Featured "Person of the Week" in Our Local Paper

It's a funny story, actually. While shopping in good ol' Walmart, I noticed a lady kept "conveniently" ending up on the same aisle as me. I thought it was kind of strange - but chalked it up to another "Walmart stalker" incident, and continued shopping. When I got to the checkout line, this same lady got right behind me, and I noticed she was looking at me strangely. I continued with what I was doing and just decided to ignore her, LOL. Suddenly she asked, "Do you coupon?" Of course, I gave an enthusiastic yes, while pointing to my coupon binder. She then asked if I was from Lamar County. Again, my answer was yes. She then whips out a business card and tells me that she is a staff writer for the Lamar Democrat and she'd like to feature me as the "Person of the Week"!! I was shocked, happy {giddy, really}, and felt completely blessed to be approached about this. Of course, I agreed to the article.

We collaborated on the article via email and the article came out about two weeks ago. It featured a pic of me on page three and a three column article about why/how I coupon, how I started, etc. It also mentioned my coupon blog and gave my total savings for 2011 {$940.43!!}.

I've often been approached in the store when people see my coupon binder and I always make time to stop and talk to them. Many have watched "Extreme Couponing" and think I do something like that. Of course, I explain that I practice "practical couponing" and then share tips and tricks with them. I'm amazed at how many people notice my coupon binder!

Anyway, I feel blessed and very honored to have been the "Person of the Week" for the Lamar Democrat. What a thrill! Maybe this will help kick start the couponing classes I'm wanting to offer. I just wanted to share my moment of happiness with everyone at HCW!!

That is so awesome!! I am so happy for you. It's funny how many people see that binder and think of "that TV show". I personally am annoyed with the constant shelf clearing at my local stores. I am glad you set 'em straight. I hope your coupon classes go well for you.

Thanks everyone!! I was so honored!! I've searched for a Lamar Democrat online and there isn't a website, unfortunately. I have a copy of the original article, though. Perhaps I could scan it in and upload it??
