June 2008 - couponsmakecents With abject apologies for the lateness, and without further ado... June 2008 Moderator of the Month: couponsmakecents Name in real life: Lisa C. Age: 42 Home State: Mississippi Marital Status: Married Kids: none but 29 nieces and nephews Pets: 1 Jack Russell In her own words: I truly feel blessed being part of a wonderful on-line community. Many of you I have never met and yet know that if anything were needed, to the rescue would come my HCW family. This family supported me through my hardest trial (fighting cancer) and showed me compassion, friendship, and love. I appreciate the other mods, supermods, and admin for striving to make this board a play-by-the-rules board and to show by example that trying to beat the system in the end hurts everyone who is trying to save money. With the rise in gas prices, food costs, etc. it is even more important for our board to rise to the top of ethical deals and show that saving money can be fun, rewarding, and ethical. Little Known Factoid: I am an American Indian; 1/16 Cherokee Indian Favorite Money Saving Tip: Remember that bigger is not always better and that buying a smaller ones often nets free or next to free. Budget: $125/month Stores she shops: CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Winn Dixie, Rouses, and Wal-mart (gasp) Coupon Organization Method: I use a combination. I have a binder that I put the majority of the coupons in, a small school type pouch (used for holding pencils, etc) for each store for the week, and a box for mutiples that stays in the car. Best Advice to Newbies: Start slow when starting to chase deals, master one store and then branch out to others, plan on 6 months to really get the hang of it, and hopefully by a year's time you will only shop deals, meat, milk, and fresh produce. You will most likely have a stockpile of HEB, plastic, paper, etc for a year. ADMIN NOTE: Lisa has been a true inspiration to us all. In spite of times when she had been ill, she still found a way to be online and help others learn the frugal lifestyle. Her caring support of mods and members can be felt throughout the site. She's been beyond generous in running Relay for Life Auctions and raising funds for cancer awareness. And when we've needed support in the Helping Hands forums, she's been right there ready to organize and drive participation. Lisa is a wonder and we value her friendship, passion, and insight here at HCW. Thanks Lisa for all you do!!!!
