Have you used this recipe with just whole milk instead of buttermilk?

I'm not sure if you are asking me or the OP, but since I posted a recipe for buttermilk biscuits I'll answer for my recipe. I did try it with regular milk once and it turned out okay, but not nearly as good. Buttermilk and real butter is the way to go.

If you've never baked with buttermilk before I can give you a several other suggestions of things to make with it (so it won't be wasted). I make a chocolate buttermilk cake and brine my chicken in it too.

I can make biscuits. Here's what I use: 2 cups self rising flour
    1 cup milk
    1/4-1/3 cup shortning

Basically add half the amt. of milk to your flour. The more shortning you add, the flakier your biscuit. I use only a little. Knead, roll, cut and bake at 425 degrees.

I'm an southern belle too. I still have to cheat to make biscuits. I have found that house autry makes a biscuit mix. all you have to do is add the buttermilk or milk. These are great. no butter or lard to mix in. it's already in the mix. It's a white bag with red and white stripe. The sad part is my daughters are still better than mine. hope this helps.

Sorry I can't be of help.
I'm right there with you. I won't even attempt to make homemade biscuits. I can make home pie crust and stuff but not biscuits. Hey try this one:

Take a pie plate and melt a half stick of butter in the microwave. Then use one can of refrigerated biscuits and cut them into quarters. Layer them over the melted butter like you would monkey bread. Then sprinkle a little bit of garlic powder over them and throw some shredded cheddar cheese all over the top and bake it at 350 degrees until the cheese started to bubble just a tiny bit. Pull it out and eat it like you would monkey bread. It's fabulous!! My mom taught me that one. We have it quit often. YUMMY!!!
