    Glucose monitor question...

I have a question for those buying the glucose monitors.

Are you buying them for yourselves? For family members? Or just to get the ECB deal?

I realize people donate things that they can purchase for free and don't need.

DH would be less than thrilled if I came home with 3 glucose monitors that we don't need/won't use, even if I did get them for free, plus $10 in ECBs. His response would be "Ya know, there are people that actually NEED those."

My dad is one. He is Type 2, and has to monitor his sugar level. If he went to CVS for the monitor because it is FAC, and there were none in stock, I think he would be pretty upset to know that people are walking out w/ 3 at a time when they have no intention of using them.

Please don't misunderstand this post. I'm all for getting great deals at CVS or any other store. Working the sales is/has been great for my family because each dollar can go farther. We are a one-income household, and stretching our money has now almost become a game. I have learned a lot from this board and its many members, and appreciate it so much! And I know DH approves of my new-found hobby.

I guess what I am asking is, at what point do we (as a group of couponers) draw the line on deals?

Why don't you give it to your dad???

I donate them to the shelter or family services. They LOVE it, and said that they will take any that I can get. The homeless can obviously not afford to buy them, and social services keeps several on hand for elderly diabetics or moms who develop gestational diabetes.

I always pick them up when I can get them FAC. If I can help someone out by picking up the meters when I am in CVS anyway, then I am going to do it.

I don't clear shelves on a regular basis, but for stuff like this when they don't have a huge stock to begin with, I don't feel particularly bad if I get the last one.

I only take one. I give them toa lady at work that can not efford one. I was wondering about donating as in the last few months I have got her 3 new ones. But I think that's enough for 1 person. I try not to clean off the shelf as I know whatit's like to go in to get something and I can't because someone else had to get all 10. Oh well the next deal will come along. That has been my saying lately, miss one get the next one!!!!

If they are out of stock the person can always get a raincheck. If you need them, I would be happy if they were out of stock. I would get as many rainchecks as possible.

I use a few myself - some of them have a small amount of the lancets and test strips in them. Others I donate to the local shelter/clinic who are thrilled to get them.

I have no qualms whatsoever about getting as many of these as I can, since I know they will be used by folks who need them. If I can make a few extra ECBs along the way, I will often buy additional test strips, etc for them.

I attempted to get some last night at a different CVS store in a town nearby. They were out. I asked at the pharmacy dept. They told me if not on the shelf, they don't have any. I asked for rainchecks. I followed her (shift manager I assume) to the back and waited while she checked the shelves. Followed her back to front of store. She wrote out the raincheck and put qty. 1. I was told limit 1 per person. I told her I have 3 family members with diabetes. She changed the 1 into a "2" but said that was pushing it.

I'm curious to see what my regular store will say this afternoon. They rock and shopping elsewhere made me appreciate them all the more. I fired off an e-mail to corporate today complimenting them. It's the least I could do.

They aren't a limited supply item. If you saw someone clear the shelves of them and a diabetic walk in behind them and leave empty handed, I see the point. Otherwise, they'll just restock the shelves with more and the manufacturer will just make more and send more to CVS with the hope (well founded, I'm sure) that they can sell more of the ridiculously expensive strips to be used with the monitor. I personally buy these on occasion but never bought 3....I give them to my MIL who uses them.

Hi, all- short-time lurker, first-time poster!

I am a Type 2 diabetic myself w/out health insurance, and yes, these Contours do have 10 strips included (some brands do, some don't). Five strips lasts me about 1 1/2 days, but those are 1 1/2 days that I don't have to pay for strips! These FAR or free-after-ECBs deals help me a lot, but I realize there are non-diabetics buying them, then passing them on.

So if you live in northeast Indiana & have some w/strips that you don't need, I will happily take them off your hands, if you have no one to pass them on to. (Haven't figured out yet if there's a PM system here or not..! Will do that next-)

    Sorry, shameless plug... !
