| Bloom SUPER DOUBLES 8/19-8/25 Saw an interesting report on another site and called to confirm: SUPER DOUBLES UP TO $1.99 8/19-8/25!!!
(Fort Mill, SC confirmed - call and check w/ your local store, however I tried calling others in the Charlotte, NC area that seem to not know anything about it yet)

Some southwest counties in SC are having Bloom triples every week, it seems.
If this is indeed super doubles at Bloom and not Food Lion, then they are copying Harris Teeter?
I am aware of some connection between HT and Bloom. I was questioning my Bloom manager about their coupon policies. They said that they and HT had agreed to take each other's store coupons. I've never see a HT or Bloom coupon, but her comment implied the two store chains are aware of each other's promotions and may have some working agreement on accepting each other's coupons. |

Yes I agree that everyone needs to contact their own local stores to confirm. *Normally* when the Charlotte area does something, other areas do as well, but Bloom did have triples for a full week once in the Charlotte area ONLY, so everyone needs to check with their own stores to be sure they're participating before you get all organized for the event.
Bloom and HT's 'connection' is just that they are competitors. They are not affiliated, however. I'm not sure about any kind of 'agreement' - rather, HT does accept competitor's coupons, and Bloom is a competitor, but that policy has been around longer than Bloom has been around. Stores do not have to 'agree' to take each other's coupons - if one store takes another store's coupons, they just take a loss on that coupon in order to get customers into their store and away from the competitor. It's not like HT is going to reimburse Bloom for taking their coupons or anything, so there's no need for an 'agreement.' Stores do not agree to compete, they just do. HT has been taking Bloom coupons (and FL, and Bi-Lo, and Lowes Foods, etc) for a long time, so it wouldn't be surprising if Bloom did start taking competitors' coupons as well just to try to keep up.
Bloom is owned by Food Lion - from what I've heard FL started Bloom in order to try to better compete w/ more 'upscale' stores like HT, which is a good reason why they like to try out the same types of promotions that HT does.

| Re: Bloom SUPER DOUBLES 8/19-8/25 I asked at the Anderson Bloom yesterday about the Super Doubles and the manager there knew nothing about it. She didn't even know what it was until I explained it. But, she did say that she'd heard that this particular Bloom store (in Anderson, SC) would be tripling AGAIN NEXT WEEK. !!!! And if that is the case, and they have been advertising it on our weekly fliers this week and last, and it has been the same 7 stores for all this time.... then I'd think those 7 stores might get Triples again for the week of Aug. 19- 25... and then maybe the stores that are reporting Super Doubles might be getting that for the week of Aug. 19-25. So kind of a trial, perhaps trying to decide which makes them more money and gets more people in the store.
She also said it's hard on their staff because they're tracking income from sales and are having to send cashiers/staffers home early because the money just isn't coming in..... lots of sales, but low out of pocket expenses. I don't know if that takes into account the money they will get reimbursed from the manu coupons, or how they account for that. Just what she said.
It's a lot of fun being in a test market, but it is hard to plan for!! I'm truly out of space and mostly out of good coupons. If I *knew* for sure what was going to be happening, I could order more.... |

If I *knew* for sure what was going to be happening, I could order more.... | I'm really afraid that when they compare the sales/profit numbers between triples and superdoubles, they're going to find that superdoubles are more profitable or at least they will LOSE less money on them. Look at the math:
triples: If you were to buy a $2.97 item and use that hypothetical $0.99 coupon, you'd get the item for free and the store would get reimbursed the $0.99 face value of the coupon. So the store still gets 33% of the price of the item reimbursed and takes a 66% 'loss'.
superdoubles: If you were to guy a $3.98 item and use that hypothetical $1.99 coupon, you'd get the item for free and the store would get reimbursed the $1.99 face value of the coupon. So the store gets 50% of he item's price reimbursed.
So, if you look at it, superdoubles may 'look' better to some customer who only see that they can get a more expensive item for free, but it's also better for the store b/c they do not take as much of a loss on the products that we can get for free.

I totally agree! That kind of scares me too. I really like triples and would love it if they continue to do it on a monthly basis. All the time is great, since it spreads out the hordes of couponers, and makes it more hopeful that the items are in stock. But I would rather have it monthly than not at all.
The Super Doubles, however, would be an outlet only if it were a coupon over 50 cents that I couldn't use at Publix on a sale item or combine with a Publix or competitor coupon. Hands-down, Publix beats Bloom on those kinds of deals. (50 cents doubling and combined with a sale or P or comp coupon)
I'd seriously re-think my shopping strategy for Bloom if they went to only Super Doubles. And I don't think I'm alone in that. Their prices (like K-mart's) are so high that even a doubled coupon won't make up the price difference between their store and say, Wal-mart. (or a good BOGO elsewhere) |

I get so annoyed when stores do not do the same thing across the whole chain. It is unfair to other shoppers.
