I have been inspired by Kimandkathess and am joining the savingsfest! I am going to attempt to plunk away $500 in the month of August. This will be put toward an emergency fund.
This will be tough since my DH has been out of work for 6 weeks and we have not rec'd a TDI check yet, but I am going to try my best to generate $500 and I will bring you along for the ride!! :hamster2:
I am starting with an initial $20 put aside from my paycheck on August 1.
8/4/08- I tutor on Mondays and most of this has been going to groceries and spending money, but I have managed to wrangle $30 for the fund... fund total: $50.00

NEW CHALLENGE! The Steer Affair!
Posted 10-12-2008 at 07:36:31 PM by trott
I have a new challenge! I have now set my sights on saving for a 1/4 of a cow (to freeze, not raise as a 1/4 of a pet
) and a small freezer. At $3 per pound for any and all cuts, how could I say "no" to safe, hormone free, humanely treated beef? I'm thinking the steer meat will cost $600-$750 depending on how big the steer is (usually a whole one is 800-1000 lbs!!) and I plan on buying a small, pre-owned upright freezer from Craigslist for no more than $100. I have about $250 so far, so I am going to set my goal at $550 this time (for a grand total of $800) by mid November. I plan to sell lots of things on craigslist and save all of the money I make tutoring... and I may have to sell some beef
on Cragslist if this doesn't work out...
Seriously, my husband is back to work, I am working, and I tutor one student per week, but wit economy being so awful, this challenge maybe harder for me than the summer challenge.

MooOoOoOoO!!!
Hehehe. That is so great that you met your summer goal. Good luck with the new one!! We are looking into buying and raising chickens for meat and keeping some egg layers. I need a deep freeze first and will be looking at Craigslist too. I think it will feel really good to have meat on hand, especially with this crazy economy! Best wishes!Posted 10-13-2008 at 10:52:58 AM by mommaof2kiddos
