Publix tally...awful! Anxiety problems...worse!

I really suck at this couponing thing. For someone with severe anxiety problems, going to the grocery store is not an easy thing for me. I go in with a list, for some reason I begin to freak out and wind up not paying attention to the cashier when she rings my coupons (the 3rd time I've lost out on savings because coupons not being rung up.) Plus, I just cannot think and concentrate and wind up getting things that are not on the list because they are sold out/do not carry products that I put on my list...I forget I have coupons I could have used (had a $1 off milk coupon could have used in my 1st transaction; had a salad coupon I could have used on my 2nd transaction.) From looking at my list, what in the world did I get that we can actually make a meal out of? I'm so frustrated at myself for blanking out when I go to the grocery store (those with anxiety problems, I'm sure you know what I mean. For those that have no anxiety problems, I cannot really put into words how hard it is for those like me when it comes to going out in public.) Anyone here have that problem? Anyone? :)
Anyhow...here are the totals. I did manage to save $96.69, if you want to count the store sales in with that savings total. I don't know how I miscalculated, but for what it cost after coupons the totals do not come out right.

I have the same problems! do not feel a lone..i make most of my mistakes during daylight teehee
what i mean is when i had to use my hubbie as a taxi service i was only able to go at 4am in the morning to my store..i started really getting into the couponing and everything. thinking that i was over that mind goin blank, face heating up so bad kind of anxiety until i had to rush into stores during daylight hours when the store gets packed! i started making all the mistakes again.
and there are some stores they you can't shop at at night..mainly cvs so i have to force myself to concertrate on my orders.
My big problem is im fine if there isn't anyone behind me. once the one person w/ one item comes up i start panicking (no clue why i just do) so what i do at cvs is let everyone pass me if they have 10items or less even if i've been waiting there for ten mins..it saves me alot of money because i do not mess up as much.
don't really have much advice but the only thing that makes it worse and shopping at busy hours and branging kids lol! and i have to brang in my 16month all the time sometimes even my 5month old together.
I also have realized branging another adult w/ me clears my head alot. no clue why but shopping a lone even e/ kids my mind gets all flustered. But thats what i have to do
ok im done yapping now lolPosted 07-23-2008 at 07:43:13 PM by lifeskills13

I know exactly what your talking about. And it's physical.
Somedays are better than others, but the more people there are around....the more trouble I'm in. NERVOUS WRECK
I try to go by myself during the LEAST busiest hours...at night/middle of the week.
Going to a familar store helps too. Put me in a store where I don't know the lay-out, and I'm sc^%$#ed.
Or anywhere I'm not familar with for that matter. Doctors, Dentist...ect. I'm fairly intelligent, but if I don't know you, it's hard to tell you my name if asked. I sound pretty ingnorant trying to piece a conversation together.
Which is even stranger , because all my jobs were in the public, and I did great at work.
Anyway, I feel your pain, and your not alone.

Thanks for the replies.
This was the very first time I've been to this store. We moved about 3 weeks ago (might be going on 4 weeks now) and it is the first time I've even been out since we've moved! I put off going until the last minute of the sales I wanted to hit so I had to go yesterday or would have missed out on getting some stuff I had been putting off getting, waiting for sales. Of course, stupid me-they were out of the Fast Classics (Fixin's) Chicken I had all planned on getting (they were out) and darn if I didn't walk out and forget the stupid rain check I wanted!
I forgot to add, the reason I completely feel like I screwed up was that I had two of those Publix $5/35 coupons. I wrote out 3 lists for 3 transactions that made it to $35. Would have saved $15 by doing it this way. But, as soon as I walk in, I panic and just start pulling different items from the 3 separate lists instead of sticking to the lists (now I'm saying to myself, why on earth did I do THAT?) So, my totals got all out of wack, and I just did 2 transactions, missed out on saving $5 PLUS the fact that I missed her not ringing up the yogurt $2.50 coupon-when I am standing there and everyone is behind me, all I can do is stare at the screen and not panic, at that time is when my mind is a COMPLETE blank-no thinking except that I can't wait to get out of there!
But, the good news is that the weeks I have been dreading going to this particular Publix was for nothing because the cashier I went to was so nice, I was afraid of having problems with my Planters $3 coupons but she didn't even blink when she saw them.
Friday morning, I am planning on combating Kroger next. Haven't been there yet so dreading that! Plus, I have to go to a new CVS I have not been to before, so I don't end up with expired ECB's. Plus, a new Walmart! I'm so nervous about going there that I am already getting nervous just thinking about it.
Didn't mean to write just a long comment.
I appreciate you sharing and posting, I don't feel so alone in the couponing world now when it comes to being anxious. :)Posted 07-24-2008 at 12:00:02 PM by tdgirl
