Hooray for HCW! My 1st blog entry!

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been learning the ins and outs of saving money on groceries. This has been one area in my life that I really haven’t paid any attention to. In the past, I read the Target ad, but that was about it. I almost always paid full price for everything unless it was a big ticket item like my TV armoire.
The funny thing is that my measly $30 savings that I made on that purchase pales in comparison to what I’ve saved in groceries and personal care items in the past month! (heck! The past week!) Of course, I’ve had the time to study websites and figure out how the coupon queens do it. I don’t think I’ll ever be as adept as they are, but I’m making progress!
There have been a few added benefits, other than just cutting my grocery bill.
When I open my cupboards, freezer, and fridge, I am almost overwhelmed by a feeling of abundance. I’m all stocked up! And knowing that I paid less than half price for it gives me a great feeling of achievement!
When I go to the store now, I have my trip all planned out so the only thing I really browse for are clearance deals and coupons! This gives me the feeling that I’m in control of what I buy! Not the marketers. Not my hunger. If it’s not on my list or a great deal, I just don’t buy it.
This is also changing my relationship with money! One of the laws of the universe is that when you begin to expect things for free or super cheap, you’ll often get it! So, by practicing what I preach and vowing not to buy anything unless it’s at least half price (if not free), I save money every time I shop just by not spending impulsively. And the great thing is that if I don’t buy something when it’s full price, I can buy TWO when it’s half price! Talk about feeling abundant!
Since this is where my energy is these days, I really want to share the wealth! I’ve decided to use this blog for coupon tips, a savings log of my trips, and maybe share what my favorite deals of the week are. I’m so glad I found HCW!
