Sort of coupon newbie & Rite Aid trip

I've always used coupons, but as an "occasional" user. Meaning that if I saw a coupon for something that I buy regularly, I would tear it out and use it the next time I went to the store. I never really bothered to match up sales with coupons to get an even better discount.
But then I found HCW and everything has changed for me in the last couple of weeks! I've figured out about stockpiling on items at a low price so I'll have them later when I need them. Which explains why I now have several bottles of shampoo and conditioner in my bathroom cabinet.
Stopped at Rite Aid today during lunch to get a few things:
Brach's Cinnamon Jelly Hearts - $1.49 - 50% off: $.74
VitaminConditioner - $6.99
2 Band-Aid Sheer bandages - $3.49 each
Cadbury Creme Egg - $.88 - on sale $.50
Head & Shoulders 2in1 Shampoo/Conditioner - $5.99 - on sale $3.99
2 Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup - $1.39ea - B1G1F - $1.39/2
2 Campbell's Tomato Soup - $1.39ea - B1G1F - $1.39/2
Used:
$5 off $20 Rite Aid coupon
$1 off Band-Aid
$1 off Head & Shoulders
OOP Total: $16.34
The VitaminConditioner has a Try Me Free tag on it to get a full rebate back, so subtracting that amount:
Adjusted OOP total: $9.35
Not bad!
I didn't discover until after I'd left that I had gotten the wrong Band-Aids. I meant to get the B1G1F boxes, but the Band-Aid shelves were all messy and I picked up the wrong ones. Oh well, with the $5 off $20 plus the $1 off Band-Aid MQ, you could say that I only paid $.98 for the 2 boxes!
I was disappointed that my local Rite Aid didn't have the Zip-loc bags on sale for $1.88 because I have a $1 off coupon I had planned to use. And my local paper didn't have the Pepcid or Visine eye drops coupons in them. My husband uses Pepcid and I have chronic dry eye and need some more eye drops. I'll be going back to Rite Aid later in the week to get the 3 12 packs of Pepsi for $8.98 with in-ad coupon since my husband goes through that stuff fast.
I love HCW and everything I've learned here!

Nice job! I'm a new HCW member and coupon user also. Quite the day also! My "deals" were:
Chase/Sanborn coffee 4.99 for 34.5 oz at Walgreens (usually $6.99 at supermarket). Also, Ajax dish det .79 each (.40 cent savings from supermarket). They also had cereal 4/10 (same price as at supermarket) but you received a $3 register coupon for the cereal. So, I applied that to 2 cans of coffee. Spent a total of $18.56 for what would have typically cost $26.16!
Then off to Stop and Shop. Cereal that is usually $2.99 each (cookie crisp) for $2.22 plus .75 coupon (but a do not double coupon...oh well)...purchased 2 boxes for a total of $2.94 instead of 5.98.
Then off to Sears essentials.....Raisin Bran and Rice Krispies...4/$8 (usually $2.99 each at supermarket). Purchased 8 boxes. Spent $16 instead of $23.90
Total spent: $37.50
Shelf price would have been: $56.04
Saved: $18.54 or 33% on items I purchase weekly...and..cereal, dish det and coffee are off the list for a couple of months now!!
This could be addicting!!!!Posted 02-16-2009 at 03:37:02 PM by CheriNH
