Cutting back /stockpiling more

I'm not a paranoid person call me prepared last spring I watched gas quickly jump to 4.00+ I watched the news and saw where things were going , so I watched sales used coupons and started stock piling wondering if it would work. I acquired 6 months worth of coffee and sugar and other goods . I made jams and jellies and froze fruits and veggies I basically put away what I could . I cut back on stuff I did not need this is what happened last winter I had every thing I needed I only had to run to the store once a week for milk , bread just a few things.I would see friends at the store and have like 6 things in my cart and would hear I wish I could come in here and only need 6 things .I would tell them what I do and they would at me like I have 2 heads but I'm one who is drinking coffee that was 5.oo not 8.99 and I was able to put money away. I have a feeling that gas is going up to 4.00 + again so I'm replenishing my coffee and sugar and flour again.I also am putting my feelers out and finding free fruits that people have an abunduance of like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries strwaberries and rhurburb as to cut back on the cost of making the jams and jellies. I'm always looking for ways to ensure that if any thing happens I'm covered . I must say untill last spring I was not too keen on coupons now I 'm addicted why pay full price when you get it for free or nearly free. And untill last spring I never really thought about power outages or loss of a job or high gas prices now I think about it and have a plan and feel that I could weather any storm that's a good feeling

Great job scooby.
I hear you on the gas and the economy.
I buy when it's low so I don't have to buy when it's high. Every week I toss in a thing of dry beans or canned meat to my order. Just in case.
I would like to stock more flour and meal, but hate buying it w/o any q's. Going to have to bite the bullet and buy it anyway.
We are doing the edible landscape and a garden again this year.
We purchased trees last year with our tax money and added a couple more on this year.
I have dwarf apples, dwarf peaches, standard plums, kiwi trees, and cherry trees.
All take 2 to 3 years for fruit.
We also purchased grape vines, muscadines, red raspberries, gold rasberries and thornless blackberries.
I ordered my vines and fruit trees from gurneys because they have a $25 off a $50 order coupon. It pops up when you google. Then I use a click through to get a rebate back on my internet purchase.
Next year we plan to add on nut trees like paper shell pecans, almonds and walnuts.Posted 05-21-2009 at 03:56:17 AM by thickbluebug
