Arrested!

Small town police must have nothing better to do than arrest an otherwise law abiding mom for failure to licence her dogs.
Yes, today the police arrived at my house this afternoon to arrest me on a Bench Warrent for failure to licence my dogs.
I had just put the three youngest of my kids down for a nap and my oldest daughter was about to leave to a friends when they came a knocking. They let me call my husband who was thankfully on his way home. I told him to head to the bank to get out $455 bucks for my bond and go to the jailhouse.
They had me empty my pockets and proceeded to handcuff me and took me downtown. I was processed and put in a holding cell with a lovely meth head who was in for fighting with her friend. The holding cell was nasty and gross and I sat there in my orange jail slippers and tried not to touch anything. I was thankful that I had peed before leaving as there was no way I was going to go to the bathroom on the nasty toilet!
After 4 hours they let me go. I have to call the courthouse tomarow to see if they still want me to go to court on the 6th or not (probably not since my bond paid for the fees)
So if you are ever in Wyoming...make sure you licence you dogs otherwise you could be wearing orange jailhouse slippers in a cell with drug addicts.

| | OMGosh. So sorry you had to go through that. You'd think they would be out there getting criminals, not tax paying citizens who have pets!! This just seems wrong. |

| | I would be totally embarrassed if my kids saw me being handcuffed. I'd probably be bawling too. O.K. but I have to ask. How did they know you hadn't licensed your dogs? If you hadn't registered them, who called them. Somebody must have called to let them know. |

| | Thankfully they did wait untill I was out at thier car to handcuff me so that I was not cuffed in front of my daughter. What had happened is that in Jan we had lost our dog Fuzzy and in late Feb we had gone to the shelter to adopt a new doggy, Ubu, and when we adopted her they ran our name through the system and saw that our other dogs licences were up for renewal. So they gave me a time frame to get that done but I also had to get appointments for everyone for shots and the Ubu spayed. So anyways....by the time everyone was vaccinated and UBU spayed I had missed the deadline. Anyways...it is crazy. You can bet your bottom that lesson is learned. That I will get the dogs licenced right away because this small town does not have much leeway. |

| | Oh an another thing...all 3 of my dogs are spayed now. All are current on thier shots. I fork out $100 a month for my Husky's antibiotics that she needs because she has a pulmonary lung deisease that leaves her open to phnumonia. I am responsible pet owner, I just missed the deadline, but I did get it all done and they are licenced. Im sure there are other real crimianals that the police force could be focusing on out there... |

| | LMFAO!!! When Heidi called me up and told me this, I was dying. I shouldn't have laughed so hard, but it really was funny. I just wish that the dog catcher would just take my dog. I'd do a night in jail to be pet free! |

| | That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard! You'd think they'd fine you with a late fee, not jail you. |

| | That is just the craziest thing I have ever heard! I would be furious if I had that happen to me. Where I live they just give you a $25 dollar fine per dog. I got busted with that once when they came around knocking on doors looking for proof of a license if you had a dog in your yard. I tried to play it cool and was like "what dog?" LOL Of course our dog decided that was the time to be a watch dog and started barking like a nut at the officer behind our wooden fence. "Oh him, sorry we don't think of him as a dog, he's our baby" The officer was not amused. I quickly called my mom a few houses up and told her to put her dogs (3) in the house and not answer the door. She went down the courthouse that day and got the licenses for the dogs. |

| | Wow. I am glad you are ok and a free woman now. I hope you won't have to go to court. Judges must have a lot of free time on their hands if they sign bench warrants for unlicensed pet owners... |

| | I did not have to go to court...the fines and bond I paid to get out of jail paid my fines and that was that. |

| | Gee Whiz....I can't believe it. Meanwhile, I'm kinda wishing I lived in Wyoming because I am having some major issues with my new neighbors' vicious dog. It came after my youngest son the other day and from the sounds of it I just knew he was a goner. Police and Animal Control say they are "working" on it whatever that means. Now I'm kind of wondering why one officer told me to file a city warrant and then another told me to just give them some time to take care of it. Three complaints for three different incidents from me alone in less than one week and two (that I know of) from another neighbor = I just don't understand what's going on. Sorry that happened to you. I am sure you were horribly upset about the whole situation especially because of the kids. I guess 20 years from now you guys will be sitting around at a family get together and one of them will say "Hey, remember the time mom got arrested?" Oh well, if letting the dog license slip by is your worst I'd say you're a SAINT. |
