New and still learning...

I have wanted to start a blog for a while, but have not had the time or energy...and while those 2 things have not really changed, I am going to do it anyway.
I am going to use this blog to talk about my shopping experiences, help me stay on budget, and just discuss my hectic life with DH and my 4 kids.
So...a little about me: I am 35 and live in Phoenix, AZ. I have a PhD in Psychology and currently work as a researcher (which I am hoping to change soon). I have a 10 yo son, twin 2 year olds (DD, DS), and a 4 month old daughter and an Australian Kelpie. I have been married for a year - we have the his, mine and ours situation with the kids - but consider all the kids "ours". We met when the twins were 5 months old and we have 50% custody of our 10 yo son. I love having a "big" (in relative terms) family - and being a mom is the best thing I have ever done.
I love to read - and while I do not have a favorite author - I yearn for new books from Barbara Kingsolver (fantastic writer), Isabelle Allende (if you have not read Paola - you must), and Stephen King (hate most of the content, but the writing is exquisite). My old standbys are poetry by Pablo Neruda (there are few rivals to his prose), David Sedaris (for comic relief), Wallace Stegner's Angle of Repose, and anything by John Steinbeck.
I also love foreign films, independent films, and documentaries. I am happy to see small films make it to the big screen - and regularly go to film festivals to see those that will never make it commercially (those tend to be my favorite). Favorite movie of all time is Harold and Maude (yes, I have a morbid sense of humor and no boundaries). The opening scene makes me laugh everytime (and I watch it at least once a year).
I love to cook - and get Gourmet and Bon Appetite for ideas and encouragement. I also love to bake but hardly have the time to make things from scratch these days.
Okay, I said a little about me...and look what happened!
Anyways - I am going to try to blog a few times a week and see how it goes.

| | nice blog! If you like cooking, you should try Taste of Home magazine. My mom LOVES that magazine, and they have no ads, which is cool. |

| | How do you get in to doing research and what kind of research is there a need for? Sounds like you have an interesting life. And how do you ever find time to read? |
