I am so sick of people saying that everyone who is having money problems right now has spent beyond their means and don't know how to budget or should just quit being lazy and go get a job. I am SICK of it. I have no where else to post this to let it out.

My DH lost his 3rd job this year. He didn't get fired, he didn't quit, the companies shut down and went out of business. This last job that shut down on Monday went out of business 6 weeks after they hired him. Out of nowhere they just decided to pull the plug. They left 50 guys without a job. On top of that they were promised to have all their money paid to them on Friday if they showed up to get the checks. Most guys showed up only to find that they owner had gone on vacation and didn't leave their checks. They were told that they are in the mail.

On top of that, a fight broke out between a couple of the guys and the boss and DH got a black eye trying to break it up. That is not going to look well for job interviews.

I was ok with the whole losing his job thing since it is the 3rd time this year. We know how to work around it. What we don't know how to deal with is being without the job and not getting paid. He is missing $1000 that they owe him. That is enough to last us a month. Yeah, we can sue for it, but that doesn't help pay the bills this month.

I try my hardest to stay positive. I maintain a positive attitude around DH otherwise he will get more upset and worried than me. It always works out for us even when I don't know how it will, but it will. I am just so worried that it won't work out and I don't know what we are going to do.

I had to listen to my family talk about how this whole economy mess is just media hype, when here we are suffering like millions of others. We did not over spend. We are not paying off thousands of dollars in debt. It is real and it is scary.

We all keep track of our savings to a certain extent, but does anyone ever actually keep track of how many coupons they redeem? I thought I would give it a try. I feel like I had a GREAT day shopping. Here are my totals:
1 gallon Milk
4 Beech Nut Juice Blends
ok, $47.57 sounds like a lot, but DH is trying to quit smoking. If you subtract the Nicoderm patches then my spending was more like $29 or $0.37/item. Enough food to last more than a week (I was building on what I already had). On top of that I got diapers and baby food. Most people spend more than $29 a week on diapers and baby food so I am super excited with how well I did today!!! Go me! :BigHand:

Triples is disappointing....

I guess it defeats the purpose of triples to hire a babysitter so I can go shopping. I took my kids with me yesterday (because I had to) and it is just not fun to go shopping with a toddler and an infant screaming and taking up all the room in the cart. I ended up getting a few things I didn't need to and forgetting to put stuff back that I decided I wouldn't get on this trip. I spent more OOP than I had planned, but still got some OK deals.

Well today I figure I will wake up at the crack of dawn and go do my shopping before DH has to leave for work and my kids are still asleep. WRONG! Both kids woke up super early crying and coughing and sounding miserable. DD has been sick for a couple of days but today she sounded horrible. DS had not been sick and started showing symptoms of something today. So, instead of getting to go shopping I get to take 2 cranky sick babies to the pediatrician's office super early (OK leaving the house at 8am is super early for me considering me and the babies don't get up till 9am usually).

Turns out DS has croup and an ear infection and DD just has a cold even though it sounds worse. So, no triples for me today.

On a happier note, when I was at CVS last night, the two teenage boys behind the register were taking bets as to how much my OOP was. One bet no more than $3.50 and the other bet no more than $2.50. I laughed and told them I would be really disappointed if it were that high! :hysterical: Yeah then they said I was "A Bargain shopper from hell" so I don't know if that is a good or bad thing.

Keeping up a blog is hard work! I have been busy with school, and kids, and life in general. I have not stopped shopping though!

The manager at CVS was ringing me out on Sunday and he complimented how well I did with my coupons and said I was one of those "smart shoppers". I'm not even a super couponer at CVS. I don't do all the ECB deals and I don't do multiple transactions and I only have one card. So the fact that he complimented me just shows that there are no other couponers in my area (that and they always have stock).

Lowe's Foods has been my main focus for the past few weeks. Here are some of the things I have been getting:

Gatorade $1 - .50/1 tearpad doubled = free
Smart Balance 50/50 Butter $1.99 - .75/1 doubled = .49
Barber Foods Chicken Cordon Bleu 4.99 BOGO - (2) $1/1 = 2.99/2
Bagelfuls 1.50- $1 = .50
Aunt Jemima Waffles .99 - $1/2 = .98/2
Tabasco (for my mom) 1.55 - .75 blinkie = .05
I don't even remember everything I bought the other day. DH gets mad every time I get something for the freezer b/c he then has to reorganize it LOL

My mom loves tabasco and I have a million coupons. They expire in about 2 weeks so there might not be a good sale on it by then. I have been stocking up at .05/bottle since she is usually buying the big bottle for $3.25 every week.

It is kind of a pain when you have about 50 coupons for something and the store will only double 4 like coupons per order. So I have had to make several trips. I will probably be shopping here more now that Food Lion has stopped combining manu. Qs with store Qs.

Even saving 50% right off the bat is awesome. That is what I was saving when I first started couponing in January. I am now starting my 6th month and the savings is really starting to show itself at the register and in my wallet.

Here is what I got this week:

I finally received that $10 prepaid debit card from doing the Mach 3 survey. I have been holding on to it b/c I didn't know when I would ever spend $10 all at once (then I searched for the thread about the debit card and realized I could get a $10 gift card to a store and not have to worry about it). So I got a $10 gift card to Food Lion since they had a pretty good diaper deal going on this week.

I also got conned into subscribing to the local newspaper on my last trip to Lowe's Foods (he wouldn't let me get the "NO" in before he had me signed up and then he offered a $10 gift card and the price for 3 months is 8.50/month. so with the $10 it is actually cheaper than just buying the Sunday paper out of the box every week).

ALSO, dh drinks AMP energy drinks like water so I have been entering the codes and I won a new pair of adidas shoes! dh needed some new shoes so he was so happy ($70 retail value, they are the old school shell toe shoes like he loves too).

Anyways! Here is how I spent my money this week:

Food Lion:
2 Huggies Jumbo pack diapers size 4s
1 Food Lion jumbo pack diapers size 4s
5 Gerber 2 pack stage 2 foods
12 jars of beech nut stage 2 foods
2 gerber baby bottles
1 gerber sippy cup
2 80 ct tubs of FL wipes
1 40 ct travel pack FL wipes
1 box of Gerber cereal w/ fruit
4 jars salsa
2 KC masterpiece bbq sauces

I used all but .81 on the gift card and spent about $4 OOP (I tried to use EBT on the last transaction b/c I had a lot of food items but b/c of the coupons the register flipped out so I just paid the $4 cash to save myself further embarrassment).

At CVS I did math wrong so I spent $2 more OOP than I wanted to but here is what I got:
2 Kodak 4x6 photo books
2 Listerine Smart Rinse
4 Dawn
2 Chex Mix
2 Brut deodorant
1 Fusion razor
2 boxes CVS bandages

spent $23 ecb and got back 22.96 ecb (although I would rather have spent an extra 2 ecb than that $2 in cash...oh well)

At first it was hard to get into couponing because I had no stockpile and so I had to buy certain items every week and only had a certain amount to spend. Now I have built up a small stockpile so I can focus exclusively on sales.

I love it because now I get a one time use debit card and I wonder "How in the world am I going to spend $10 at once?!?!"

The Lowes Foods ad has been pretty pathetic for quite some time now. Well this week it was OK so I decided to go and pick up a few of their specials. They had SOOO much more on sale than was in their ad. I hate to think of all that I have been missing by not going over there or at least checking prices online. Check out all the stuff I got:

Budweiser BBQ sauce 1.99-.75 = .49 each
French's Mustard .99-.50 = Free +.01 overage
Gatorade .79 - .50= Free + .21 overage
Satin Care Shaving Cream 1.43 - .55 = .33 each
Rice A Roni 1.00- .50 = Free
Barilla Whole Wheat Pasta 1.19- .50 = .19 each
Bertolli Pasta Sauces 2.00 - .60 = .80 each
Kikkoman Soy/Teriyaki Sauces 1.29 - .55 = .19 each
Hefty Plates (55ct) 1.49 - .50 = .49
Ziploc Bags 1.50 - .40 = .70
French's Worcestershire .99 - .35 = .29
McCormick Grill Mates Marinades .75 - .25 = .25
Chex Mix 1.30 - 1.00 = .30
AMP energy drinks 1.50 - 1.00 = .50
Eggo Waffles 1.66 - .55 = .56
Carolina Pride Smoked Sausage 2.98/2 - 1.50 = 1.48/2 or .74 each

There was probably more, I don't remember. DH is going to have me committed. I have more stuff now than i have room to put it. I was just so excited at all the things I could stock up on for less than $1.....less than .50 in most cases!

At Lowes you get 50 greenpoints for every cloth/reuseable bag you use and 10 greenpoints for every dollar you spend. It's funny because I get more greenpoints for my bags than for the money than I spend!

All in all I got more than $200 worth of groceries for less than $30. It has been a great weekend!

So we went to the beach all of last week. Let me tell you, travelling with a toddler and an infant is no fun task. I spent 2 months getting ready for this "vacation" and it actually ended up being more work than if I had just stayed at home. We were there for 7 days and I saw the ocean a total of 4 times. Kind of a bummer.

On top of that I didn't get to do any of my regular shopping. CVSing, WAGsing, etc. are what I do on Sundays for some ME time and I didn't get to do that. I was going to, but I had left the coupons I needed at home so it wouldn't have been much fun. I passed all kinds of stores that I would like to have poked my head in to: Publix, Piggly Wiggly, Kroger...we don't have those around here. That is when I realized that I do have a sickness....who wants to go grocery shopping on vacation?!?!

I went and did some shopping today. Kind of a bummer too because not all of my ECBs printed out. I decided to just wait and call CS since it is always such a problem trying to take care of it in the store.

At Wal-mart I found the big boxes of diapers on clearance for $10. That was the best deal. I ended up paying $8.xx for a big box diapers, 2 huggies cleanteam wipes, and 2 zantac.

At FL I hit the jackpot with catalinas. Between yesterday and today I got 17. And most were not brand specific. (ex. $1.50/$5 laundry detergent purchase or $1/$4 toilet paper purchase) All of them are store coupons too so I can combine them with ones that I already have.

So now I have some planning to make this week/weekend better than my last week.

ok so i've probably said a million times that I NEVER shop at wags. I always end up spending more OOP than I wanted to. This week the deals are too good to pass up.

If you have been having trouble with cashiers at your WAGs then I suggest you go late at night. 3rd shift people are a completely different kind of people and they are so much more laid back and easier to get along with. I used to work 3rd shift back during my first attempt at college a few years ago and I forgot how night people are. Anyways there also aren't any people shopping late at night so you can take all the time you want BSing with the cashier because there is no line to hold up.

I went to 2 tonite. One by my school and the other near my house. I did 2 transactions at each store and spent a total of $11.56 OOP and have $36 RR left to spend on diapers. my oop would have been a lot lower but I found some GREAT clearance stuff at the second wags. Here's what I got for 11 bucks:

1 Venus Embrace
2 Gillette Fusion (1 power and 1 manual)
2 Axe Deodorant (1 with bonus body spray)
2 Right Guard RGX
1 Commit Lozenge 48ct. Cherry Flavored
2 CG Blushes
2 CG Lipslicks lip glosses
4 CG Brow and eye makers
4 CG powder puffs
4 CG puff sponges
2 Cascade (1 powder and 1 action packs)
1 Winterfresh gum (b/c I miscalculated my total on the first transaction so I had to grab something)

I am guestimating that is about $125 worth of merchandise for $11 - $36RR. So i made $25 off the whole deal. What did i ever do before coupons? :savings:

I didn't have a car really all weekend so I was going crazy not getting to do my normal shopping. I was kind of bummed that I missed out on the BIC Soleil deal at CVS because I didn't realize the Qs expired on 4/27/08. So it was kind of a boring uneventful weekend for me.

I finished off the Alavert deal in here somewhere so I made $3 more ecb sometime in here.

Walmart Trip #1:
(2) Zantac
(4) Post-it Flags
Cascade Clear Rinse aid
(2) Huggies Clean team wipes
Reynolds Handi-vac
---------------
Total OOP = 1.80 (stupid sales tax, my subtotal was only .10)

Food Lion
Luvs Size 3 Jumbo
(2) 60ct Pampers Swipers
FL Travel wipes 40 ct.
Gerber bottle
Gum (for DH even though we have a gazillion packs of trident left from CVS a few months ago)
-------------
Total OOP = 4.47
Used (2) $2 cats from Kraft LiveActive Cheese snacks

CVS
3 CVS RR Pain Reliever
------------
Total OOP = .51
Used 8.99 ecb and 2.50/10 pain reliever CRT
got back 11.97 ecb

Total OOP = 6.78
Income = (2) $3 checks from Pinecone = $6
ECB total = 41.97

If people think it is not possible to make money without the $/$$ IPs from CVS then they are wrong. I blew $11 ECB at CVS at BOGO diaper week 2 weeks ago (something I NEVER do) and have already earned that back plus some.

Also, because my kids are starting daycare in a few weeks (2 nights per week) I have decided that I really need to spend excess ECBs, Cats, and Overage on diapers. I really don't think the daycare people will like me if I send my kids there in cloth diapers. I also don't want to haul the cloth diapers with us to the beach so I need to stock up for that too. I know I will go crazy using disposables for a whole week. Think of all that money going in the trash :rolleyes24: So I have another trip to WM planned for tomorrow. Will update with that stuff when I get it.

So I have been saving up all my deals to compile them into one post. I think I did pretty well this week. Adding it all up my OOP seems kind of high, but I got a lot of stuff. Here it goes:

CVS trip 1:
Contour
(2) CVS Size 3 diaper jumbo packs
(2) CVS Size 5 diaper jumbo packs
(2) Gas-X Products
total OOP = 1.81
spent 24 ecb
got back 24.99 ecb

Food Lion:
(6) Stage 1 Beech Nut Baby Food
Ocean Potion Sunblock
Gerber 9oz bottle
FL travel Wipes
Purex Concentrate
total OOP = 4.69 (I always cringe when my oop is higher than $2 LOL)

CVS Trip 2:
CVS Bandaids
total oop = 2.87 (had a band-aid emergency and ran to the store w/o my coupons and ecbs! DOH!)

Walgreens:
ink cartridge refill (it only took them 2 weeks to fill it!)
2 Suave Shampoos
2 Suave Conditioners
total oop = 2.95
got back 6.00 RR (still need to go back to get diapers. I don't usually do WAGs so I usually just spend the RRs on diapers rather than try to roll them)

CVS trip 3:
Precision monitor
CVS RR Pain Reliever
20 oz Coke
Total OOP = .09
spent 23.98 ecb
got back 23.98 ecb (wouldn't have gone today, but i had an 8.99 ecb expiring today and i was not about to let that happen)

In the Mail:
Schick Quattro Razor
Johnson's Mom Kit
coupons for chocolate from CVS

Also received my $10 MIR on seafood and a $3 check from Pinecone.

Total OOP for the weekend: 12.41
Total Income: 13.00 + $6RR to spend at WAGs
ECB balance: 39.87

SO even though my OOP was higher than normal, I think I had a great weekend. Luckily I got that MIR in the mail this week to make up for it.

I got cheap childcare!...

...and it's not paid for by the government. I sometimes feel like I am taking advantage or like I am a deadbeat because i receive government aid. ...

...and it's not paid for by the government. I sometimes feel like I am taking advantage or like I am a deadbeat because i receive government aid. Well, the school I go to offers cheap childcare depending on your financial aid package. So, if you have one kid and you qualified for the full Pell Grant then childcare is $0 for a semester. With 2 kids it is $152. $152 for 15 weeks of childcare...for 2 kids! That's just crazy! I mean you can't pay a 12 year old that little to watch your kids. Not only that, it is an actual daycare "chain". I don't know if that is the word for it, but there are a bunch of them around.

I used to be against daycare for my kids, but DS is way behind on his speech (about to turn 2 and not saying 2 words). He needs that interaction with other kids. So it will be good. Not only that, I need to finish school so that I can quit feeling like a deadbeat and actually make a decent living and life for me and my family.

I was just so excited when I called the school to talk to them about childcare for summer school and how I might not be able to take summer classes because of this issue. They were like "Oh we have a deal with Sunshine House down the road, you just need to come fill out the packet for each of your kids!" i love my school! I strongly suggest that any SAHM out there who wants to go back to school look into an Adult Education program at a local college. They are so much more helpful this time around than they were when I entered school as an 18 year old freshman. I dropped out of school at 21 during my senior year because I was pregnant. I have my whole life been a quitter, so I know that if I can do it anyone can do it. i am on track to graduate fall of 2009!
