"CVS"capades....

Posted 01-23-2008 at 05:40:19 AM by mom8w

Just thought I'd consider journaling my introduction and progress as a fairly new "CVS"-er! Living in a rural community, we don't have many options for grocery or pharmacy...a few, but not many. We had Walgreens and SavOn, along with Wal-Mart as our main pharmacy options. About a year ago, the SavOn became a CVS, and the CVS Extra Care Card was added to my keychain. Requested and presented when I picked up prescriptions, I never saw much point in having the little tag...CVS is more pricey than my main shopping venue, and at most, my purchases aside from prescriptions, were stationary items.

I ignored CRT after CRT, and had no idea how I earned the meager 2 or 3 dollars here and there in ECB's, didn't even realize what they were called. Likewise, I didn't pay much attention to email coupons...why would I shop that pricey place in the first place.

Then, I stumbled across a couple of online posts here and there about CVS deals. Huh? Good deals? I began to research. The pharmacy gal asked for our extra care card one day, to which I replied that I couldn't find it, but it didn't matter anyway. She straightened me out quickly, advising me that every 2 prescriptions filled earned a dollar. REALLY??!!

During the holidays, I tested the once ignored coupons, and began to purchase some of the deals. Unwittingly, the prized ECB's were my ticket to cheap milk. No rolling, no careful planning. Still, it was part of the learning curve!

A little more research brought me to HCW, where I lurked and read and learned. More strategy, nearly a month's worth of following ads and threads and hunting coupons down, messing up on some of the deals I expected to do, and I'm starting to get the hang of it!

I'll use this blog space to continue tracking my successes and goofs as I attempt to cut costs and have fun!
